I have been hard pressed to find the original thread, but some clever folks out there had made the suggestion of creating a supplement akin to the Swordwind, sharing the fiction/fluff in a cohesive story line.

The Dark Eldar were mentioned briefly and that got my wheels turning.  Are there any army champs or list authors who would like to help put together something that would include the Dark Eldar in the fluff?

The DE 1.3 list is working quite well and I believe will not go through too many changes in the future.  This would be a great time to align the list with other efforts if a supplement were indeed to be done.

Obviously it would be a lengthy undertaking, but certainly not impossible.

I am open to suggestions at this point. Thanks! :)

I was one of those who expressed interest in doing such a project.

Personally, I'm wondering which race / army would make the best foil for the Dark Eldar.

Well with that logic we shouldn't have an official army list for anything since even the core armies are being re-evaluated.   :glare:

Every list has a little tweak needed here and there.  My point was that we take lists that haven't moved much (perfect example would be Tau) and tie them together in a cohesive supplement.

That supplement just ties them together fluff wise, nothing more.  If there are special rules that are shared (ex. Tau and Dark Eldar both have support craft), you can put those special rules all in one section if you wanted, depending on how the layout looks.

As for this supplement, I would think sticking with three-four armies would be a good idea.  At least one of them should be a humanoid army like Imperial Guard or Squats/Demiurg or such that would have the ability to be raided.

If we were to follow the GW policy for suppliments, then every suppliment would include at least one Imperial faction, in order to keep the suppliment 'grounded' (The Imperium are our eyes into the world of 40k after all).

Personally I think the Elysians are a fantastically done list, but their combat style is too much like that of the Dark Eldar.  Too many things dropping in, teleporting, etc.  It would make for a great game but difficult to write fluff for (no defined defender in the battle).  Unless of course the Dark Eldar and the Elysians are both attacking the same defending target....  Hmm.

What other IG factions are out there that would be unique enough to be listed separate from Steel Legion and Siegemasters? Catachans seem to be out of place (same reason as Elysians).

IG lists that I'm aware of are:

- Elysians
- Catachans
- Armoured Regiment
- Death Korps of Krieg
- Cadian Regiment

and possibly this list:

- Inquisitorial army (Ordos Xenos) with inducted guardsmen.

I think this idea is pretty good! Altough I do not play epic, I like to read such things.

Maybe it is something for bfg...different but....mmmm....

Id think that an Ordo Xenos army would be a fitting foil for the Dark Eldar, however it would also be good to have a straight IG regt.

Things that can be ruled out IMO:
-Cadian and DKOK would fit best in chaos themed supplements to my mind.  DKOK certainly wouldnt take on raiders.
-Elysians should be with Tau for sticking to the IA fluff.
-Dont really know enough about catachans to have an opinion
-What about other regts that havent been done to date such as Tallarn?  Tallarn could make a nicely flavoured version of the armoured regt and you could easily imagine the DE fighting on a dusty desert world.. that could also fit necrons though I guess...

You see, that is what I mean.

Dark Eldar raiding some nomads in the desert run into Tallarn Positions.
The Necrons decide to crawl out of their tomb.

Very basic but with good possibilities.

And with all that current cool Necron & Dark Eldar armies it will look good already.

If there is a fourth army this could vary a lot but since Eldar & Orks already feature in Swordwind they can be reserves if nothing else works.
I think Tau will be cool.

This reinforces my opinion that the way to go with epic development is definately supplmements.  It gives the army lists a bit of focus and fits in with the initial SG army list ethos.

Can anyone remember the master thread on supplements that was kiking around before?  I cant find it for the life of me.

I couldn't find it either otherwise I would have posted there. ?:confuse:

I wish I knew more about Tallarn. ?Anybody want to give a brief synopsis or do I have to 'wiki' it?  The desert thing sounds REALLY good though. ?Since I already know Corey pretty well (Necron Champ) maybe that would be a good way to go. ?I'll reach out to him on email (he needs to give us a 4.2 Necron list anyway :) ).

Is there a Tallarn list? Champ? Dang it I need more information now!

I dont know much about Tallarn, but it does strike me as a good place to have a heavily armoured theme (thinking desert rats here) together with small groups of mechanised infantry.  I was really thinking that this would be agood way to use the armoured list that E&C has been working on (asuming hes ok with that).  It would need some modifications obviously...  Ill have a think about it...

EDIT: Wiki Entry

Put Squats and i will ever give you money for that!!!!

Anyway, the army listings to be used should be the ones thoroughly tested. I don't know if Tallarn's 8th army fits that description (although i think that Dark Eldars really do, being seen even in the french epic tournament)

I had actually been thinking of changing the name of the IG armoured regiment list to the 'Tallarn Xxth Armoured Regiment'!

Tallarn is a planet that is known to raise fantastic 'raider' IG infantry regiments, and also many tank regiments (Deserts being just about perfect for tank battles).
