During one visit at GW, I asked about their scenary they did (a big skull mountain) and the guy told me how it was made etc. He also told me that it was made from High Density Foam that was stocked at B&Q. It's hidden away amongst the insulation stuff as that's what it is used.

Now the stuff cost around ?30+ but you get quite a bit and its pretty thick and massive pieces. Can't seem to find it at their online store.

I'm tempted to get it, but need to somehow slice it to a smaller thickness and not sure how I can do this (GW foam cutter just way too small... like 20x too small).

So anyone got any ideas? or where I can get alternative in UK?

You need it pre-sliced into managable chunks?

Either ask B&Q to do it for you (They have large cutting saws on site) or apply a bit of pressure and snap it into smaller chunks with your hands!

Sheets will definitely need sliced to get them home but you should be able to get a variety of thicknesses to suit, anything between about 30mm to 200mm or thereabouts, builders merchants are a good source. Personally I often pick up pieces on the building sites that work insists I visit every now and then.  :D

Its not big chunks that is the problem... it's slicing them as they are too thick.

I'll have to check with B&Q, but I doubt they probably can do it. Cut them to pieces yes, but probably not slice them.

What sort of thickness are you looking for? as I've said they start about 30mm though 60mm is the standard. I agree B&Q will definitely not have any means of making them thinner though they may have thinner sheets in stock. Trying to slice it yourself is a nightmare and due to the static you'll end up covered in bits of the stuff.

After 30mm stuff, but sure when I went to B&Q, they only had 60mm+ stuff... they probably was out of stock hopefully.

hehe, tempted, but its still not sufficient. We're talking about sheets that are at least 1 square meter (or bigger). So even with that it'd be difficult to slice a sheet to the correct thickness.
