Well, I'd been out of province for a good chunk of December, so I hadn't been at the GW Bunker in Oakville in a while, so I was up there to see a client and decided to pop in and snag some EPIC...

Well, the staffer there told me they were out of stock... and I looked where the Specialist Games blisters and books normally were and it was filled with LotR stuff... okay.

Asked if they were getting anymore in, but he didn't think so. ?Just then, the manager walked in, listened in a bit and then jumped in to inform me that the would not be stocking any more SG stuff; he'd been told to "Get rid of it!" and had sold the store's stock at discount *GASP* during the holidays and now it was only available through Mail Order... and then he wistfully told me that since getting rid of it, several people had been in asking about EPIC... *SIGH* ?Seems there are still people playing EPIC at the store every couple of weeks, but they'd been forced to bring their own EPIC scenery as the Bunker had gotten rid of theirs.

I used to work for GW, so I know first-hand how insane some of their policies can be, but I'd usually kept myself positive about the state of SG games since they seemed to support them at least a little bit... but now, I'm just about ready to give up on them. ?If the Chaos Sprues aren't released in the next couple of months, well, that's it. ?

Oh, don't worry, I'll still be playing EPIC *laugh* It's practically my favourite game! ?I just won't give a single cent to GW ever again.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Man that stinks, I know that the GW stores here in Houston never carried the new epic at all and now they have gotten rid of the BFG.  How can they not want to keep a great game like epic around.

Woops! Sorry Chroma, I guess I should have told you about that eh? I found out just before Christmas when Heather (my GF) and I exchanged gifts. She drove all the way out to the bunker (and got lost twice doing it) only to be told by the pimply staffer that they didn't have it anymore. I guess the look on her face must have been something fierce, because they quickly dug out what little they had and helped her choose some stuff. In the end she got me a bunch of Imperial Guard artillery and fliers. BUT...she didn't get a discount. They 'threw in' a bottle of superglue, but I think she still had to pay full price. Lame.

I have inquired at Mail Order since and any Epic ordered through Can. MAil Order is shipped from the US warehouse - and they still stick to the regular 5-7 day delivery time too.

EDIT: Apparently she *did* get a bit of a deal in the end - good for her.  :laugh:

I agree that I'm about done giving money to GW. I still might have to grad a few odds and ends to finish up the Guard but I'll go with the sweet FW stuff anyway. Any future armies will likely be DRM or Exodus Wars.

I've said it before, and Pip just said again ... forget G/W ... DRM & E/W are the future of 6mm Sci-fi !  I've got every thing both make so far ... They are great !  :D

Many of us have been through the 'cold Epic winter' in previous editions. Whatever happens in terms of official support, this place will still be here, trades will still happen, ebay will be around, other manufacturers will provide and the fans will write. NetEpic grew huge at the death of second edition, Tuffskulls forum was very active after third edition was dropped and that was folded into my own boards to become what you see before you.

In fact, when GW announced Epic fourth edition, I was worried. We were nice and 'stable' before!  :D

Look at me, only one friend to play BFG with, I never visit GW shops with their little kids. I play roughly 5-10 games a year of Battlefleet Gothic and I still am a great fan.

Pirates of the Spanish Main is also cool and more friends play it (6) because of the quickness.

Yes, C/S is correct !  We'll keep Epic alive here with DRM & E/W models, the F/W Aircraft, GZG, ebay, B-town, etc., etc. !  :D

If it weren't for me, I don't think any of the 5-6 guys I play EPIC with would be playing EPIC at all and certainly wouldn't have sent any money GW's way for any other reason.

I just don't get GW's attitude, even when I worked there and was at meetings at the US HQ, the bizarre beliefs of the "Higher Ups" just baffled me.  EPIC is a great game, doesn't require a lot of Studio or manufacturing resourses, and, with a little advertising, make a great *supplement* to people who already play 40k... why not cultivate that?

I think from the things I've heard from many sources, the G/W Brass, wants to concentrate on Big $$$ Makers, Like 40K and WHFB ... ?The company has taken some loses in the past and profits are not where they should be ... ?So it's simple from a economic standpoint, but not so simple if what you like is sacrificed ... However, I'm more than glad to have us continue do rules here, and get minis elsewhere (DRM, E/W, GZG, etc. ... But I have said this before ... ? :D    :alien:  :blues:  :devil:  :O

Yes the LotR fans are concerned because they are 10% of GWs sales and are worried their game will die.

I'll never understand why GW goes out of its way to discourage the sale of SG products at its own stores.
