Just trying to see if there's anything out there in plastic bases that I've missed.

I've bought a number of pieces from EM4.  Nice 20x40s, several options for round bases.  Price is OK, maybe not great.

I'd really like to find some 10 or 15x40s.  Any body using plastic stuff that's not meant as a base?  I've got some 15mm round game pieces that I'll be using for Dreadnaught bases.  Just enough to help them stand, without being too prominent.

Not really interested in metal.  Making my own plastics sucks because I can't cut a straight line, and I'd rather spend the time working on actual minis anyway.

I know, I can be stubborn, but I like plastic.  I can drill inset holes in it, make small changes to the size or shape.  It just works for me.

I haven't tried wood.  Looked at Litko (Jav really inspired this thread).  What are its pros and cons?

If you want to talk about your favorite metal bases or whatever, that's cool too.  This thread should benefit more than just me.

I think this was discussed recently (about 2 months ago, maybe?) in another thread. I believe Suvarov mentioned he found some plascticard that came pre-scored/was easy to score which made it easy to make bases for people like me that can't cut a straight line to save my life.

I bought a sheet of the 1/16" Square Tile styrene from Evergreen Scale Models. ?It was on sale at my local Hobbytown USA store. ?Buying the blank sheets and cutting them is cheaper, and fairly simple if you just get a drafter's square (also known as a T-square). ?You shouldn't have to cut all the way through; just score the sheet and bend it quickly and it should snap along your score (kinda like when you're cutting glass).

Don't fear learning new skills for your hobby! ?Mistakes can be fun (and useful in an Ork army). ?Even Krooza wasn't born with his kitbashing skills.

Ditto! ?20x40s for character stands and large infantry. ?31mm for small vehicles. ?Maybe 31s or 25s for more 'open order/irregular' infantry, if I go beyond AdMech. ?Xlan, maybe... ?:;):

I hear you about 10-15x40s. ?My own supply of GW bases isn't huge and I'm not sure I want to get more from them.
For some irrational reason wood bases seem odd to me. ?Maybe I'm too used to plastic, but wood doesn't seem... neat. ?I get these images of splinters and frayed fibres, even though I'm aware of the concept of sanding. ?I'd be interested to hear about them, too.
One option I had in my head was make up my own 10-15x40s - with recesses - from styrene and cast them in resin (would finally have a use for the stuff!). ?Or... I could check out the availability of square tile styrene on this side of the pond... ?Yeah...

BTW. ?Totally useless piece of information, thanks to better basing options: did you know GW produces flat (i.e. Epic/WM flat) 25mm round bases? ?Obviously you'd know if you've looked at the BoFA set; but they're also supplied with - at least - the new WM floaty Slann. ?Sprue of three. ?With the code I guess you could phone up MO and order some. ?If you were drunk. :p

I tried obtaining some of those 25mm flat discs a while ago... you have to get directly through to mail-order on the phone, and then badger them a bit, and eventually the guy will find the code that says it's ten pounds per sprue. Then he'll offer to sell them to you at 60p a sprue because 10 pounds is an obvious rip-off, even for GW! :D

Well, thanks to EM4 I've got some nice 25mm round flat bases. ?Besides, if I buy anything from GW, I'd prefer to make sure it was strictly Epic to "show support" (I know foolish hope, but what can I say...  :p ).

As for wood. ?Litko really talks their stuff up, so I'm sure it's neat & tidy. ?I'm just concerned about it's reaction to things like paint. ?I was hoping there was someone with some that were a couple years old or more, to let us know how they stand up over time.

I've considered making up my own 15x40s w/ insets & recasting them, but I'd need SO MANY!

I was hoping there was an easier solution.

Well, "the seeker" is searching. ?I'm going through board games supply sites, teaching supply stores, craft stores, whatever comes to mind. ?If I find anything, I'll pass it along.

On a self serving, advertising topic...

How many people would be interested in buying the EW bases? If we had them available in packs.

Tom.

Me! (depending on the price, of course)

As much as I am loving the E/W minis, the bases are just a bit thick for my taste. ?If another option doesn't present itself though, ?I would prob. buy them. ?

To me bases are a necessary evil. ?I want them to be thin and unobtrusive. ?I also want variety so your army doesn't look "cookie cutter" (of course that might be how I'd want "Space Romans" to look. :;):

On the plus side, the E/W bases are pre-textured (love that) and Epic compatible (hope you don't mind constant comparison to Epic).

Edit: as a side note on basing variety.  I will often base different formations differently to help identify them.

I like the old square Epic bases for Orks.  The huddled mass just looks right.  One formation might be mounted normally, while another might all be facing one corner.

Um... personally, I din't think I would.  Sorry!  Again, it's the preoccupation with plastic.

For those looking for plastic bases in different sizes, this person has 15x40, 20x40, 30x40 and larger.  A bit cheaper than EM4.

They have good feedback on 2 previous lots of bases.  The seller assured me they were not irregular, but square and neat and that they have supplies well in excess of what is listed.  If you'd like more detail, I should be able to give a report on mine within 2 weeks.

I've said it before but...

With plasticard stock and a medium-duty paper cutter you can knock out any size rectangular or square base desired in mass quanitities in very little time.

I hear ya, but I wouldn't trust myself to cut them as regularly and cleanly as my pedantic O-C standards would demand. :D

Ta, Consectari.  Some 15x40s might come in handy in the future, but I dunno if I'd ever have enough troops to stick on 120 of them!

Just need to find one of those guys who base their vehicles to take half of them in 20 x 40s. :D

Just thought I'd offer a quick update.  I received my bases this past Friday,  They are everything the seller said they would be and arrived very quickly.

They are cut as square as my eye can perceive.  No discernible deviation in size.  They have neat edges.  Though they are not beveled, the base itself is quite thin (just the way I like it).  The plastic is rigid.  One side is glassy smooth, the other is "slightly" matte.  The seller suggests using the matte side & giving it a quick brush with sandpaper before attempting to glue.

The lot included a few extra bases plus a small batch of irregulars to experiment with.

I have fairly high standards & I am quite pleased.  Worth every penny I paid, even with international shipping.

I now have all the 15x40s I should ever need.
