...I'm only writing this to let off steam. I need to do about an hour or so of working out after work just to keep healthy. Anyway,I'm on my last mile of cycling, riding almost in the gutter, when this guy pulls right behind me and purposely blows his horn with the intention of knocking me over. It didn't work,so he pulls up along side of me flips me off with the words"Hey F---king a--Hole,why don't you ride on the f--king sidewalk!!" I didn't even swear back or flip him off. All I did was motion him to pull over to the side, and I said "Come here" I'm glad he didn't it just wouldn't have been purty. But talk about ruining a day. Where do these people come from? I don't get the mentality. Sorry fellows, like I said I just had to post... |

Yeah sometimes you meet jerks. More often than not they have some unfortunate life history to blame for it. I also try and cycle (as transport) to keep fit. |

I had a guy pass me on the shoulder of the highway once. He was going over 120 km/h - I was on my bike. Witnesses said he had to swerve to avoid me. I was about 4-5 feet onto the shoulder and he missed me by less than 6 inches. No, I don't know why some people are so freaking braindead. |

Just remember, in a few hours you will feel better. In a few days it will just be a story you tell. In a few weeks it will be forgotten unless it comes up in a conversation etc. Guys like that are just sad. Do not let his hell infect you. Him, he lives in this hell of his own mind 100% of the time. He is unhappy all the time. He is an ass 100% of the time. People who do these things need our pity. Feel sorry for the jerk that he has no love or light in his soul to help him get past the rage and anger that is his life. Be glad you are not him. dafrca |

I think the thing that makes me still angry about my incident is that, in order to save 10 seconds off his commute, that person could have killed me, leaving my three daughters without a father for the rest of their lives. If I had a dollar for every loser that beaked off at me from his car, I wouldn't have to commute to work: I could live off the interest! ![]() |

Well, keep this in mind: when oil eventually runs out, he'll be stranded, and you'll still be able to get to work! ![]() ![]() |

Honestly, it is just as well, that he didn't stop. He may have decided that you could serve as a target for the pistol in his glove box.... Lesser things have set off freeway shootouts, you know. ![]() ib |

A lot of drivers think that cyclers don't belong on roads. They are, of course, 100% wrong. I had a similar incedent. I was on my bike, riding maybe 4 inches from the curb, and this old battleaxe pulled up next to me and slowed down so that she could yell at me for "hogging the road". |

I know exactly how you feel. I used to have a similar problem when I was at university in Birmingham. If it wasn't bus drivers wanting to play kiss chase then it was people who apparently had never seen a bike before and didn't know that I had right of way when they decided to pull out of side roads. Even though I rode defensively, I finished my three years reconning that I had had a near death experience for each term that I was there for... Tim |

Here they have put clearly marked cycle lanes on many roads, which is a good move. They have bike icons, and in places the whole lane is painted bright red so it stands out. Also some places they have special traffic lights for bikes. I haven't really had any problems with traffic since these were introduced. I believe many European countries have introduced them as well. |

In my old age, I've "learn to turn the other cheek", in most cases ... As it would feel good to smash one of the scumbags that I've let go (live). But if I revert back to my instincts that I use in the jungles, deserts, etc. I'd probably end up in jail or sued or both ... I do just wish one or two of those losers would try to jump me when I leave work at night ... then I could get away with murder ... but even they are not that dumb ... ![]() |

I think one of the worst thing about many of these jerks is that they have so much rage and they have so little love. An empty soul is an angry soul. dafrca |

These "guys" of course were the "erstaz truppe" or phoney troops if my German is correct. Anyways that was the mentality. Imagine a whole company of guys with road rage, all the ammo you could carry for free, and a license to kill the "weaklings"... ...better watch who you vote for ![]() |

Hi! I decided after one sad event 6 years ago to not answer or be provoked by such things. I went to the movies to see one of the star wars films with my son and brother. After waiting for a parking to clear up for quite a while another cuts in and takes it. I lost it, I got out of the car and banged on his windshield and told him to get out. He seemed to originally have acceeded, but his female companion egged him on to tell me no. I went blind with rage, I took him by the neck lifted him off the floor and banged him repeatedly against his own car. I thank my brother for stopping me from further madness and idiocy. I realized afterwards that I was fully aware to kill the unknown guy over a stupid parking. I was ashamed of myself for a very long time. Now I am very mellow and always keep my cool no matter what. The alternative could have been my life turning for the worse. I'll never be goaded in losing my temper and suggestive anyone do the same. Life is short for senseless rage. Primarch |
