Technology advances.... Of course Legion 4 would clearly tell us what would happen to one of those against a motivated squad of grunts.... ![]() The body exoskeletons are intresting. Power Armor baby!!!! But I have a had time imagining what the advantage of a large walker would be. And I am a CBT fan. |

DARPA has actually had a RFP or Request for Protoype out for Powered Armour and/or Exoskeletons out for about five years now under the Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation (EHPA) name: http://www.darpa.mil/baa/baa00-34.htm No takers so far that I'm aware of. |

I don't doubt that in the not-too-distant future we'll see power armor. Of course, let's not forget about the civilian applications. Think of Aliens and the hydraulic loaders. |

There's already a couple prototype exoskeletons being tested in Afghanistan. It can carry something like 2-300 pounds, and the operator feels 20-30. The problem is the limited fuel load (one hour's operation). |

Hi! Thats a limitation for a lot of stuff. Once we get small cold fusion generators we'll see a big boost in tech development. Primarch |

I wonder if battery power has been tried, or something else besides an internal cumbustion engine. ![]() |

It may not have been an internal combustion engine (in fact, I don't remember what it used for a power source), but I remember the 1 hour limit clearly. The best idea I've ever read was using some exotic spring material, where strength varied with the amperage applied to the springs. It works very well with a running motion, but notably less well in a slow crawl. |

I think my all time favourite Power Armour vs Giant Robot quote has to be from the hellaciously complicated power armour combat rules set called Living Steel. Weismyer (Giant Robot Jock): My robot's bigger than your robot. Prescott (PA Jock): It'll just make a bigger divot when it falls over. |

Living Steel? Wow, what a blast from the past! I think I've got a copy of the basic rules someplace. They were ungodly complicated, and probably unnecessarily so (looks at his 1st edition Heavy Gear rules). L4, have you read any of the old Iron Man comics? Can you imagine a platoon of 'light' Iron Man suits in Southeast Asia? |
