Here's a "laugh" for you all.

My local game store... a 14,000 sq feet store that stocks the entire GW line including SG and some FW... just informed me today that Games Workshop will no longer be selling Specialist Games minitures in blister packs once the existing stock of blisters runs out.

Instead, if a store is actually stupid enough to order them, they get a big ziploc back packed full of their shipment. And I do mean *a* bag.

It's now the stores job to sort, pack and label the miniatures in question. Bloodbowl, Mordenheim, BFG, and Epic... shelf stock sold to retailers just like a bits order would be to a website customer.

And seeing as I've physically seen that the store in question has  already had to sort and repack their last shipment of SG stuff I can safely say they're neither lying nor exaggerating.

I can also safely presume that SG in Canada at least is now officially off life support and being prepared for burial.

Idjits...

Sad. :(

And some will not accept that Epic is not only dead, but that GW killed it. People want it and they will not sell it.

Sounds like more than just the death of EPIC, but of the entire Specialist Games line!

I am sorry, you are right.

I am just an Epicer so that is what I talk about.  :;):

But you are correct, they seem bent on killing SG slowly.

It won't die,as long as there is us to keep it alive!

WE'll keep it alive here with DRM, GZG, etc. ! :D

We will keep the memory of it alive. But they will kill it from a "We own the IP and do not produce more" stand point.

What remains is just a shadow of the original.

Think about it, even NetEpic has evolved into its own thing. It no longer is "Epic" but rather a substitute for Epic.

Once GW kills it, it will be dead. We will offer replacements for it.

Thats crazy. Just plain crazy.
I know GW is cost cutting after a drop in performance in recent few quaters, but making it harder for a retailer to stock your product is surely not a good way to go!

All I can say is, if they want to stock 6mm sci fi that comes in nice shiny blisters, just ready for the shelves, DRM come packed & ready :blues: :D :p

If you are searching for a reason or an explanation, have a look there.

Note that I wrote this article more than one year ago, and have a look to comments too - the thread has been long obvious. :(

Nice rant there Kotrin, looks very much like specialist games is going as you predicted.

Has anyone done an online poll or signatory complaint thing (sorry word escapes me for some reason at the moment!)

While I really don't like the way that GW is going with Specialist Games... I kinda feel for them. They're in a tough position of turning a non-sustainable product into a sustainable product. And there are fairly few ways to do that... I can honestly say if I were in their position you'd probably hate me even more. Since I'd do things like organize large-scale tournaments akin to Games Day, but only allow certain armies (Those who've had new Codex releases inside the last year or so) play. With large prizes to the winners. Possibly even draw a few places from WotC's book and start doing 'Come and buy an army' tournaments. Set people up to spend $50 or $100 for a tournament where in you get to assemble a 1000 point army on-site, and play a few games with it. Everyone shows up and builds a totally new army for the tournament. Again with a reasonable championship reward. Motivate people not just to PLAY the game but to WANT to BUY new things. And give them real motivation to come in and play in the tournaments instead of at home. Make it competative and the competative players will spend VASTLY more money then the passive collector does (No offense to those of you who have dumped thousands of dollars over 5-10 years, it's just the way that the market works). But what GW does is instead bleed off the younger kids, get people into the game then wait until they get bored and leave. Only a handful hang around and those that do rarely make them more profit. Not because they don't have the money to SPEND, most veterans have vastly more disposable income then teens do, but because they rarely NEED new things. GW needs to find a way to make people WANT to buy those new things from them in large supplies... And seems to be failing at it.
