Hi

Well after a few months hiatus I managed to get in a couple of games of Epic in.  Both games played down at the Legion gaming club in West London.

Game1
Last week I played Ginger from Epicomms in a 3,000 points game. Both of us used vanilla Space Marines - i.e. straight from the EA rulebook. Fairly similar armies based around a core of SM Battle Company. In addition Ginger's Ultramrines (IIRC) had a couple of detachments of scouts, a Thunderhawk, two T-Bolts and pair of Warhounds. My Crimson Fists had some termies, bikes, Predator Anhiliators, extra detachment of assulat marines and a Thunderhawk which Ginger kindly lent me for evening.

Good fun game played at quite a slow pace as Ginger was very patient in reminding me of some of the basics of the rules and a few more of the intricacies that was n't aware of. Definitely a benefit to playing new opponenets outside normal gaming club.

Having very similar armies made for a very interesting tactical game- the first time I had played SM vs SM. With a slight edge in activations Ginger was able to keep his T-Hawk until after mine had gone. And did n't have much that could harm his Warhounds- especially when he stomped over my termies who teleported down just after I had stripped his void shields in previous turn (Warhound failed roll to regroup to remove blastmarkers and thus could n't bring shields back up). But although was close game Ginger had clearly prevailed both in terms of casualties caused and objectives won.

Game2
Then yesterday I used virtually identical army (sans T-Hawk) to play Alex's Imperial Guard. Alex had taken LR Company, Basilisk Company, 2 Rough Rider & 1 Sentinel squads, 2 Infantry Companies reinforced with extra infantry platoons/fire support sqauds. Both infantry companies garrisoned in buildings on overwatch.

First turn saw my termies teleporting in to attack Alex's unguarded Bassies (2nd game in a row he had let me do that). Wiped them out in H-T-H. He kept his sentinels back to guard Blitzkrieg objective (why I don't know) and moved the rest of his force cautiously forward. My SM doubled/tripled forward, hugging the terrain where possible.

2nd turn saw a quick firefight between his LR company and my Predators + 1 Tactical Company. And a close assualt by my bikes (with supporting fire from another tactical company and some assault marines) saw off 1 of the IG Infantry Companies from cover of buildings.

3rd turn saw yet more shooting in central tank battle with IG LR company breaking through weight of blastmarkers. A countercharge by IG Roughriders against my bikes wiped out my bikes although broke the roughriders by number of BM's.

We wrapped it up there as I had most of the objectives except Break Their Spirit- the LR company was broken but not destroyed.

Good to be back playing again. Hopefully will try & get more games of EA & BFG over coming weeks. Almost makes up for my lack of recent painting!!

Cheers

James

Don't suppose you can drag yourself over to Euston with Ginger one Tuesday?

Hi Chris

I've thought about it but work is continually so busy. I thought with my impending job change it would calm down but the opposite. Until my replacement starts at the end of this month I have most of my old work to do and increasing amounts of work for my new role....
:(
Having had to call off game with you at short notice once already I don't want to do so a second time. So wont arrange a game in advance unless I know for sure can make it.

I do aim to get down to CLWC one Tuesday- would like to see your Siegemasters in action if nothing else!!

Cheers

I am not sure you do really WI. To lift a quote from 'Kelly's Heroes' ?my Eldar were "Abused" ?by TRC's siegers - TWICE !! in one night. Chris assures me that they can be beaten once you have the knack, but that it is a steep learning curve (which I can certainly vouch for).

I won't bore you all with the details, suffice it to say that both games were terminally short and very one sided. LOL :p
