GW/US has announced their latest round of price changes. While a good thing for players of the core games -- a lot of the battleforce and battalion sets are coming down in price -- the picture is grim for Epic.
A sampling of price changes for Epic blisters (I apologize for the formatting -- I don't know how to make IB Code do tables or tabbed spaces):

Hey, GW... WHY DO YOU HATE US???
I could see some adjustment made to reflect energy costs and so forth, but some of these just seem vindictive. Did some Epic player piss in Tom Kirby's corn flakes or something? Did he get beat up as a child by micro-armor jocks? I'm at a loss. 3 Ragnaroks for $15 was pretty well outside the bounds of reality, but 3 for $22? And the Junkatrukks... if you need me, I'll be curled up under my desk, crying softly.
Thank God for eBay and Chaosorc.

Wow, how can they rationalize 50% or more jumps in price?! It's utterly insane.

50%? Hell, the Siege Arty went up 100%.
They are out of their ever-lovin' minds. They're losing market share and revenue, so they think they can make it up with price hikes? Insane.

Yep and I am just insane for saying Epic is heading down the great big porcelain swirl.
- Forgeworld takes epic out of the catalog - SG stops posting updates to the vault even when Champions have said they have emails showing the new version were accepted. - Prices going out of bounds for most people
Yah, I am just a doom sayer.
The next Epic Dark Ages is comming and we need to accept it.

Oh and one other thing:
>>99060305041 IG: RAGNAROK TANK $15.00 $22.00
Old Glory 15mm Miniature #CD-406 KV-2 (3 / pack) $18.40
More materials in one 15mm mini then in all three Ragnarok's combines.
What a rip off, those damb dorks.

Oh this is just way too funny... I'm sorry but it is gents.

Come next annual report I can already see the politely phrased pissing and moaning by GW about how even less independent stockists are carrying their products and therefore the margins on them have decreased and theres even less point in allowing non-GW stores to carry their products.
Given I've yet to see them in the last 4 years manage to connect cause and effect successfully I'd bet money thats the way it's going to play out.
The only downside to this is that unlike last time when Epic went under at GW this time theres no one carrying the figs so I doubt you'll see deals like you did previously as people blow them out.

To be fair, since picking up Epic again a couple of years ago I haven't given GW any money for anything from their Epic range. A load of Chaos stuff came from fleaBay, Tau from Forgeworld and "Nids" from other manufacturer's ranges. I haven't even bought a rulebook. The only cash they have seen from me is bits from the core range that I have used for conversions and for the late lamented Fanatic magazine - neither of which will be directly atributable to Epic.
The more observent reader will have noticed that the money thay have lost out on was from models that they don't produce because there isn't a market... I don't suppose it will be long before I crack and buy some stuff from DRM.

Quote (colonel_sponsz @ 23 May 2006 (13:12)) | and "Nids" from other manufacturer's ranges. | And which manufacturers would these be, then? There seems to be a shortage of good 6mm bugs.

Just for curiosities sake I went and looked up the price of bulk pewter.
R-92 from this site is probably a rough equivilant to the GW Brand Absurdium flavour of pewter...
http://rotometals.com/Babbitts_and_Pewter_Alloys.htm
And I think it's probably a safe assumption that GW is buying in lots of more than 10 pounds at a time.
So... in the case of the Ragnaroks theres maybe what? 3 ounces of metal in them at the outside?
Even allowing for trying to amortize the costs of the molds and account for labour... in the immortal words of Elmer Fudd "Thewes something scwewey going on awound hewe..."
