It was with great surprise that I and several other epic gamers turned up at the Sheffield Event Centre to find out that it was in-fact our last game session there.

GW have taken the decision to close this centre down on the 22nd May. Now I can accept that the centre probably did not bring that much revenue, but surely that was to be expected and it was there to support the gaming community in the South Yorkshire area.

The centre did draw in alot of local gamers who no longer have the luxury of a guaranteed table and now have to arm wrestle for a table at the local shops, etc, etc... This is a great shame and GW could have done alot more

Anyway, several Epic gamers from the Sheffield region will now be migrating to Warhammer World, so watch out. Surely they will not close this venue??

I had heard about this, and there is some speculation why this is happening. The leading theory seems to be that it is simply too close to Nottingham. It is a shame.

Yes, I was thinking that as well. It is less than hour straight down the motorway, so any events would go to Nottingham rather than Sheffield. In the year that it had been open less than a handful of events were held.

Was it a pilot project?

I think it was the Men in Black that caused the shutdow. Thats the rumor I am sticking too.  :alien:

From what we were told it was a permanent fixture and then when it was announced it was closing it became a trial pilot scheme

The claim it was a pilot venture came a week or two after the center had a "birthday" celebration for its first year in business.???   :80:

Do you think a letter of complaint voicing our concerns would do any good??
