Post subject:  Best way to judge/score an EPIC tournament

So, I've been thinking about EPIC tournaments and was wondering how to "score" them.

Straight wins?

Total victory points?

Total *difference* in victory points?

Something totally different?  And how would tie-breaker come into it?

Anyone have any thoughts, comments, or advice?

Thanks!

Do a look round for the WPS site and check out their latest scoring system, I have to say I quite like it.

Look for the core rules pdf

Hi!

I've used VP's accumulated to determine winers in the past, worked fine.

And most weird model too.... :p

Seriously, I too agree that theme and paint should get points, as should sportsmanship. :)

I disagree, my reasoning is that gaming with miniatures is about the miniatures otherwise we would be playing boardgames.

The painting aspect of the hobby is in my opinion just as important than who wins!

Just my opinion.

You can use the couts as rule which doesn't mean that would negate anothers skill at painting, army composition theme. Indeed saying that 'they are all landspeeders' shouldn't penalise you in any way!

Thanks for the responses!

I'll have to review some of those downloads and stuff.  I don't thing, this time at least, painting/modelling will come into play for judging: we're just trying to get as many people out to play as we can!

I just ran a tournament, this is the criteria that I used:

Games won, lost or drawn will earn each player points based on victory conditions as specified in the GT Scenario as follows:

1-149 points difference in a Draw = 10 pts & 10 pts
150-449 points difference in a Draw = 12 pts & 8 pts
449+ points difference in a Draw =  Marginal Victory  14 pts & 6 pts
1 Goal difference = Tactical Victory  16 pts & 4 pts
2 Goal difference = Strategic Victory  18 pts &  2 pts
3 Goal difference =  Major Victory  20 pts & 0 pts
(Note to achieve a 1 goal diff you must win the  game by achieving at least two goals as stated in  the rulebook section 6.1.7 i.e. 2-1, 3-2 but not 1-0.)

You can include points for Sportsmanship, Army Comp and Painting, if you want.
