Guys

Has anyone considered or developed a system for playing E:A by mail?

I was thinking that with a bit of ingenuity / patience, a scale map could be created complete with the relevant pieces, and used as a basis for the game. Ideally the map could be kept on a central server and edited by each player in turn, moves being sent by email.

When "firing", the attacker would send an email per shot describing the intended weapon and target. The defender would note the Timestamp and convert that into a "dice roll", replying with his "to save" email etc

Fairly heavy handed and far from perfect, but in a community that is largely electronic by nature, it occurred to me that such a system could be used to play-test particular aspects of rules or army lists that can otherwise tend to end up in a kind of Forum "pantomime" at present. Equally it might serve as a mechanism for illustrating Batreps etc.

I have also posted this in Specialist Games for completeness.

All the Best

Ginger

It is also a good representation of the fog of war - no commander knowing what his opponent is up to. You'd need identical terrain though, unless you want to reduce the game to a thought-experiment - or a computer simulation!
Nonetheless, I'm (for reasons of isolation) interested. :D

Hi!

Once I get my own place I was thiking of doing a "virtual" game with vidcams and voice feed.

There is the logistics of time though....

Hmm vanvlak

Going "double blind" is an interesting idea, but I was actually thinking of either sending the "map" be email each activation, or preferably holding it centrally on a server (eg Epicoms) where both players (and others?) could see it / make their moves etc.

There are a lot of ifs & buts to this approach, not least being creating the correct size objects to move on the map, and the issue of reasonably fair dice rolling (hence the suggestion of converting timestamps) - and of necessity it would be much slower and less aesthetically pleasing than using miniatures - but if isolated like you apparently are, or separated by distance, like the majority - it seems a possibility.

Regards

Ginger
