Actually I am a multi-OS user. Today I was using Mac OS 10.2.8 Mac OS 10.3.2 Windows XP Professional Windows XP Home Windows 2000 Windows 98 PocketPC 2003 Most of the viruses that are around these days are worms which are "caught" when you open an executable attached to an e-mail. Oh the days when we had all those boot viruses on floppy disks! ![]() |

The most dangerous viruses that are currently bubbling under (they haven't been used on a widespread basis yet) are the ones that do NOT require you to open an attachment or email. They can act on their own, and attack in multiple fashions. There was also some dipstick professor somewhere that managed to create a virus that executed when you looked at a picture on the web! I was thinking, is this guy crazy, or what? If something like that got out (given the massive amount of porno viewed on the net) it would be the end of the world as we know it! ![]() ![]() ![]() my 2cents, iblisdrax |

Well... had quite a good weekend in the end- 3 days for a start- no school Friday due to the snow... ![]() ...I discovered a great model shop and bought some plasticard and some other bits on Friday.... Saturday got my PC sorted; me, my mate and his dad spent many hours formatting the HD and reinstalling Windows, all the nessesacry drivers etc etc to get it all (almost) working again- I lost a load of photos and files I hadn't backed up which p*ssed me off.. has taught me a valuable lesson tho.... ? ![]() Oh, and Sunday I got a game of EpicA in... my Eldar won against my mates Orks- it was highly amusing to watch his main huge mob leg it off the board after being assaulted by a single Guardian detachment led by a Farseer!! ![]() |

Hi! To add some of my computer woes, my desknote just died on me. It had a good run for about 18 months of constant pounding, dropping and being on everyday for at least 4 hours on weekends up to 12 hours. I hardly even used my desktop anymore. Anyone have recommendation for a good laptop? Primarch |

I have personally used and would recommend an Apple PowerBook. ![]() Though if you must go down the Windows route, I have had a Sony VAIO PCG-SRX41P for well over two years and it has never let me down. It used on a daily basis and has been lugged around all over the country. Some might it a little small with only a 10.4" screen and maybe a little slow with a 850MHz processor, but it is perfect for my needs. Sony do seem to make very good laptops. I have recently had a look at the new Toshiba 17" laptops and they look very tasty, 3GHz P4 processors, DVD burners, 17" widescreen , built-in speakers, really really nice. |

Hi! I'll look into the toshibas, they sound very good. I'm getting away from AMD processors, since they are now locked irreversibly there is no point in buying them. I'll belong to intel now.... Primarch |

Hi! I was pro-AMD too iblisdrax. Every computer I have ever own had an AMD processor. But the locked (irreversibly) the processors and you cannot overclock anymore. Ironically you can overclock the high end pentium processors better. Of course you can overclock AMD's athlon 64's, but the price....shudder... Its just not worth the money anymore. Primarch |

the athlon 64 processor is very good but not much use if you are not a gamer. It would be just a waste of money. I am gaming a lot so when I upgraded I went for the big one. Amazing! |
