Real Story: Experts with newscaster on CNN on 24th March:
3 US experts including a former 2-star general from Delta Force, 1 ex SAS Brit and the network's anchorman.
Footage of Iraqis giving themselves up.
Anchor: We have no verification as of yet if they are British or American troops taking these POW's
US 1: Only Americans wear boots like that, they're American
US 2: I agree, and they appear to have American camouflage jackets.
US 3 (ex Delta Force): I'm not so sure, there's not enough up-close detail to tell 100%; we'd need some close images to tell the make of the boots and jackets and maybe the shape of their kevlar headgear.
Ex SAS man: Call yourselves experts? Since when did US forces use an SA80 as a standard issue rifle? Their DPM's can be bought anywhere as can their boots, so you're chasing rainbows if you want to identify them from their clothes.
Anchor: I think you're right.
Ex SAS man: Course I'm bloody right. Any one with half a brain and basic military training worth their salt should be able to identify a British soldier by his rifle. Not to mention the fact they're covering all points properly, not shouting "woo yeah" randomly, and haven't raised a flag in direct contravention with orders.
At this point 1 of the Americans walks off stage tearing his mike off, and the anchor says "I think we can safely say the soldiers on your screen are British. Now for these messages".

What! LOL! I would've loved to see that clip! So much for so called "experts"! A uniform is no guarantee that the person behind it speaks with absolute authority... After all we are but human!

I can't vouch for the veracity of the story, buy I watch a lot of news and never heard anything about it. However, the easiest way to I.D. a unit is what type weapons the troops are carrying. Since most NATO uniforms look generally the same from a distance. The US uses the M-16/M-4, The UK the SA-80, the French the FAMAS, the Germans the G36. BUT, the UK and Aussie SAS use the M16 in the field and the MP5 in Urban enviroments. So I think this is just an amusing story and is in fact just that. US Delta Force and US Generals know the different between the M16 and SA80. I know ... I have worked with US Special Ops units ...

I cant vouch for it (its just an email I got) but those cable news networks pull out some pretty crappy 'experts' from time to time. I agree with you, but you never know if the Delta guy was really a Delta guy, or soemone who had his papers in for 10 mins before he got rejected either.
Either way the "wooh yeah" and flag raising comments are pretty funny and fairly true to what you saw earlier this year whatever network you had on!

Well I'm not saying anything bad about the SAS ... you can't ! ?I ?was in a position to know more than most. ?All I'm saying is it seemed a bit unusual, as many military "experts" on the news appeared to know what they were talking about. ?I even worked with some of them. ?Now some of the Generals had different opinions on how to fight the war, that's not unusual. ?Spec Op, Tankers, Infantry, Air Force etc., etc., all have different ideas. ?When I commanded a Mech unit attached to the 82nd ABN, they had very different concepts on how to use my tracks. ?But I find it hard to believe the weapons were not the first thing they looked at to I.D. the unit. ?But that's my opinion ! ? ?And as far as the "Hoo Yah" and flag raising stuff ... don't forget 9/11, I won't and we had a saying in the US Army - "Mess with the best and die like the rest" ... ?and of course "Payback is a muther ". ?Our enemies are very luck we show restraint in dealing with them. ?We have a lot of firepower and are surgical in it's use. ?Certain villages and towns in which we have suffered too many KIAs could very easily be taken care of with a MOAB or two. But we don't work that way ...

Hi!
Terrorism would end tomorrow if you just nuke each country that harbors them into the stone age. We all know they harbor them knowingly and willingly.
Once these countries know that it means their literal extinction, you'd be amazed how "cooperative" they would become. We'd have Osama's head on a stick the next day and with a thank you note.
Thankfully for them, the democracy they seem to dislike so much, keeps the US from doing just that. Would there be any doubt if the US was a military dictorship we'd be targets of terrorists? I dont think so.

And of course not only do us Brits harbor them, but we pay them benefits and grant them asylem.
Then of course when they run off to fight our OWN troops, we let them back into the country.
Don't forget treason is no longer a crime in our country... in fact there is very little respect for the nation left, mainly because our society seems ashamed of our past and is now desperate to atone by being excessively politically correct.

Where would you start? Northern Ireland? Eire? How bout the US? The Dept of Homeland Security is always sending out terrorist alerts about domestic terrorism.
