Iain asking me how much time I put into modelling / painting a day really made me think about how lucky I was with my current setup.

I saw Stormeer's workbench photo in his briefcase and was intrigued by how tidy it all looked & yet how similar it seemed to my own (everything easy to access etc.). It made me think about how lucky I am once again. :D

When we had an extension done to our (my parents) House a 2 years ago, I paid for my new room to be kitted out, as its now known, as "a workshop with a bed in it". It was sensible at the time as my work revolved (and still does 2/3 days a week!) around miniatures. It really does make a difference to the amount I manage to churn out.

Very few of you will be interested in this (hence its in the OT area!), but in case there's anyone who is, here's a brief tour.....

1: Filing cabinets full of miniatures. Commisions are stored in here if there's a wait before painting as are a few of the thousands of miniatures awating paiting from my collections, either for sale or display.
2:Rows of little trays full of sorted "bits" for modelling & conversions. There's also two HUGE boxes on the top of the shelves & more in the loft, but the trays contain the most commonly useful parts (weapon catagories, tracks, tyres, generic heads / arms etc).
3: Stereo for pumping out plenty of loud tunes & essential for painting. Accompanied by some of my larger WIP's.
4: Another tray, containing a couple of epic armies (Orks and SM awaiting speed painting for E:A) as well as tools & paperwork bits (invoices etc).
5:Draw for larger tools & space above for glue pots & a tray full of spare paints.
6 Many containiners full of bare lead (2 more shelves above of the same!)
7:Gaming Mags & catalogues & spay cans.
8:Books. These are all fiction. My office (where I am now) has all my "real" military reference books.
9: Hole under desk supposedly for feet. Actually filled with all manner of flocks, sands, Lichens, rubble & static grasses for basing.
10:Some current projects, big bags of bases, more "bits" & more unpainted lead.
11:The (very cluttered) painting desk. Currently in occupation are the paints for the Speed IG, 26 Warriors of Rohan, yet more Fantasy Dwarves, WHFB skinks, parts for epic demonhunters..the list goes on....

Where are the paints? I paint al over the place teaching people at my local club, doing demos & stuff so have a carry case dedicated to carrying my favourite colours with just enough space for a few WIP's.

And finally, I've been asked what setup I use for my photos in the past so whilst I was at it I too a zoom out shot of what I was shooting (go figure...). The figure is my "Leviathan" (aka OGRE when not in an IG army...) as seen in my Speed IG thread. I simply place the "target" on a couple of sheets of paper on my bed with my room lights (halogen spots) on normally & snap away. In case you were wondering, the board in the background is full of the Speed IG. It gets lifted off every night & slides under my gaming table (see below ? )

So, for anyone who's actually read all that, I pity you for being as bored as me for writing it all. :oo

Looking at the other end of the room, we have on of my favourite items, my gaming table:

Its shown during a playtest game of my 15mm Fantasy rules.
It has two open 4x4 shelves for spare boards &/or storage and the side panel folds down for easy changeover of terrain. The Cabinet maker made some weird faces when I tried to explain what I wanted him to make (think he was used to doing nice polished finish sideboards and such...).

Well if we are talking about exciting lives, I have a bad cough, and I am editing wedding photographs, my sister in law got married a couple of weeks ago I and was asked to be the official photographer. She wanted a mix of colour formal and black and white informal, therefore out with Photoshop and convert the hi-res scanned images from colour RGB to B&W RGB and then upload them to a online developer.

One of the nice photos (I didn't even take as I am in it) was of me, my wife and the main reason (which I don't mind) I can't paint as much as I did years ago, my son.

(as we are all suppose to be uploading images of oneself, at least you can now spot me at GamesDay).

However once he's older, I will have an opponent on a very regular basis - though knowing my luck he weill prefer model trains, football, etc etc and won't want to know Daddy's hobby.

:D

Hi!

Dont count on it Jimbo. I have an eleven year old and while he likes role playing games, he's not shown much interest for mini games.

Perhaps you'll have better luck.

Wow! Uh Jimbo, you actually look somewhat like my (almost) next door neighbor.  :o  You sure you don't have any distant relatives up here?  :O

And T/S, you dare call THAT boring?? Spend the remainder of the day chastising yourself for your blasphemy!

I dont think I've seen a baby with a bigger grin.  :D   Nice family Jimbo.

And you're a lot more organised than me TS.  Even though I do have more room.

I have currently taken over the sitting room.  I have a large cupboard with my most used items in.  The rest is in the loft, which I'm hoping to convert into a games room one day.  Trouble is all the spiders - I hate spiders.  :l

I then have my modelling tray, with about 20paint tubs, brushes, water, and the mini's I'm in the middle of painting.  This I can carry into the lounge and paint in there, as my girlfriend doesn't like me spending so much time in the 'other' room. (which also has my newly aquired P.C. in there.)

Hehe, interesting stuff everyone....
-The only reson my desk was so tidy in that pic was I'd moved everything and set it all up again in a more easily useable way last weekend- I try to keep it tidy, but it tends not to stay that way.. :L ..heh

Thanks for the report TS, very interesting. My stuff is so chaotic right now. Most of my stuff is sitting at my parents place, although I moved out of there about 8 years ago! It is currently stopping me deploying my gaming table. I had a 6' by 3' table added which swings up and is attached to the wall by one long side. This is a great area for playing, if only I could get to it. Right ow, most of my wargames stuff sits under my table, where the GF can almost ignore it. Painting happens when I grab a tray and put it somewhere with enough light.

My life is fairly boring right now, far too much work. Not the interesting kind either! And Jimbo, you have a wonderful family. You are a rich man.

I wish I had space for a gaming table in my room like that!

Where did you get those storage boxes from Tuff? I am looking for some to store loads of infantry....

Tom, eight months till someone moves in with you! Does it take that long to tidy up and get rid of the smell?  :D  (I'm sure there is a more valid reason...)

Cheers

Chris

He is at uni at the mo, and I have a strange sensation that the mess and smell are here to stay ;). I am a bachelor it is the expected thing to have Nurgle as a house guest.

Luckily I picked up a few tips from Slaanesh or I would never get laid :O.
