Does anybody know of good miniature carrying cases? Besides the ?30 GW one, that is.
Should I just make my own? And if so, can anybody recommend a good way of cutting styrofoam?

...I just use MO boxes, or plastic tool boxes- they are both somewhat cheaper than ?30 for GWs one....
Here is a link to one of the many carry bags/cases around anyway, I'm sure other people will know of more...

Yep, I use tool trays lined with sponge from a hobby shop. I have a large one, all the trays have a different detachment in them. When I need one i just put the small tray in another box to move to wherever I'm going to have a game. SImple plan, and I have never had a model break.
Cheers
Chris

Hi!
I use "plano" brand fish and tackle boxes, which are cheap and the spaces can be adjusted to your needs. For larger minis I use the rifle cases made by said manufacturer, whcih cost about 25 bucks, has foam already in it and I have fit comfortably about 120 titans.

I use a combination of many types acquired over the years.
- Plano fishing tackle boxes (about $4.00 USD a piece).
- Plano fishing tackle case that holds Plano tackle boxes (About $35.00 USD)
- Dollar Store plastic shoe storage boxes ($1.00 USD a piece)
- Dollar Store craft storage boxes ($1.00 USD a piece)
- Chessex figure box (About $20.00 USD a piece)
- Ultra-Pro cloth figure carrying case (About $25.00 USD a piece) ?
- Microarmor storage boxes (About $2 - $4.00 USD a piece)
- Random cardboard and shoe boxes (FREE!)
- Old CD cases for original AT-1 / SM-1 infantry (FREE! leftovers)
- VCR tape boxes (FREE!)
- And whatever else I can scrounge up!
I've been largely switching over to magnetic storage. It's simply superior and with strong enough magnets, figures never even budge even when held upside down.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

I use a variety of storage methods, but mainly use GW cases for travel.
My suggestion though would be File boxes. You can get them in a variety of depths, and most offices are overrun with them these days since most things are stored electronicly now.
If they're just being used for static storage, just lay the models in them, but they're easily lined with foam etc. for transport (& they work great with some steel sheeting for magnetic transport if you use that!).
The other option that might be worth looking at depends on how much stuff you want to move at any one time. You can buy foam inserts for carry cases from various places. Buy one carry case of your chosen design, and a heap of inserts and just pop the ones you want to take with you into the case when you need them. Nick Umanski's site now stocks the GW style ones. Chelgames Stock the Charon(sp?) range of carry cases which are VERY nice. They also supply a variant foam insert.

Hi!
Maksim, could you go into more detail regarding the "magnetic cases". Does it work with metal vehicles? Is there a way to make it work with plastic units?
Thanks!

I am with Max and use various multitudes of boxes and everything to hand. I have a large carry case (plastic tool box) and simply place the smaller boxes with the needed minis in it for transport to the battlefield.
Video Boxes are a very good option, as they are durable and dont crush easily compared to cardboard. Their cost is a big plus too!

Primarch,
There are a couple ways to go about making magnetic storage. They all involve either two magnetic sides or a metal base and a magnetic side. I use metal bases and magnetic sheeting or small cheap powerful rare earth magnets. Infantry stands are easy, Either base on metal sheet or glue it to the bottom of existing plastic bases. 20mmx20mm metal bases are easy to come by. The rectangular bases usually need to be custom cut with scissors and thin metal base from a place like Rennaissance Inks. Line the bottom of your trays with a magnetic strip and you're set. For vehicles, I either base the vehicle or drill a small hole in the bottom and glue in a rare earth magnet.
Andy Skinner and I planned to magnetize Titans to have exchangeable weapons and I bought the magnets, but he lost interest so I kept them all. Titans with magnetic wepon points are great!
Video tape boxes are one of the easiest ways to magnetize and store minis.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

A few companies sell "paper metal" which makes it even easier. Its VERY thin paper with metal fibres woven into it. You simply cut some up to size, stick it on the bottom of your base and POW, it sticks to the magnets on the bottom of your box. Very easy

Thanks for the tips! The Charon 'Slotafoam' looks VERY nice; I don't have to fiddle around with cutting styrofoam. I can just order pre-cut foam and make a carrying case around it myself.
Then again, I could just order the sponge transport (Galaxy, of course).
I hadn't thought about tackle boxes, probably because fishing isn't included in my hobbies. I prefer hunting...for new miniatures that is.
