Hi!

I am sorry you suffer from this condition, as it is a chronic lifelong disease.

I hope the stay is beneficial and your inactive phase last a long time!

I would not think the painting should be a problem. Just mention they are water based and have no oils or fumes and it should be fine.

Thanks Primarch, although I'm assuming you meant "inactive phase will not last a long time"?! :D

Only kidding bud, I really appreciate the kind words and I'm sure I'll be fighting fit in a few days again. Maybe I'll get on with the Jannisaries and Myrmidons stats for the Marhaf while I'm cooped up as well! ;)

Cheers!

Hi!

Oops!

Yes, the "active" phase is what shouldn't last. :-[

Get well soon!

Thanks for all the support and kind words everyone, I really appreciate it!

Speaking of Crohn's and dairy products, that well known health organisation, PETA, have said with complete certainty that 60 a 90% of Crohn's cases are caused by consumption of dairy products.

http://www.peta.org/living/food/crohn-s ... onnection/

It's amazing that none of the Crohn's charities have worked this out, I feel very let down by them. Clearly it's time PETA jacked in that animal protection lark and started looking into other human diseases, they obviously have a talent for it... That's just a pop at PETA by the way, not anyone else making helpful suggestions! ;)

Seriously though, I will have a think about diet when I get back out. I do eat fairly healthily (for a Scot) but I'm at the stage after 3 years of this to pretty much try anything...

Sorry to hear that Bissler, I also have a chronic condition and can sympathise. Chrohns is the pits, hope you're feeling better soon. Painting should be fine and a damn sight cheaper than watching those pay-as-you-go TVs many hospitals now have.

Come back soon, with pics :)

Edit - pics should be of your minis. :D

Would be so so easy to lower the tone with a come back but I will remain restrained. Needless to say, pretty nurses posing with the minis will be tolerated. ;D

I never had a problem with the hospital staff and one doctor actually encouraged it for rehabilitating my hand. Hope you aren't laid up for that long though as it was never a fun place(for me at least).

I also have a friend with crohns for whom a dairy & wheat free diet has helped massively. Probably different for everyone but worth a try.

I also know of at least one soldier who got into 40k when in military hospital rehab cos all his ward mates were painting minis ! Not sure about the nhs though... If they won't allow it just threaten them with some loud heavy metal! ;)

Good luck. Hope it goes well.

I did a medical trial where I got paid to spend 3 weeks in hospital in exchange for monies. I did a load of painting, though they would only let me paint in the recreation room and not while in bed. It's sort of the same, sort of not. You can always ask? Make sure to tell them the paints are non-toxic and don't smell and have a tray of some kind that would catch spills. Otherwise a laptop and lots of ebooks, movies, ect would be the way to go.

My housemate has had serious medical/digestion issues for years (still not exactly diagnosed though they're narrowing it down). Her gasterenterologist has been pretty useless and closed minded e.g. refusing to believe she partially addressed problematically low levels of certain minerals in her blood tests just by adjusting her diet to include lots of food rich in them, which is what she did.

I suggest you spend some time doing some googling / research on it. Read over websites dedicated to Chron's. Try and look at online forums where people who suffer from it themselves talk about it and what makes it better and worse for them. Mainstream medical opinion is important but not gospel or the be all and end all. The modern medical system (encouraged by the profit motives of the pharmaceutical companies) goes strongly in a direction of over-medicating people at every turn and not giving enough attention to diet or other factors in causing or addressing diseases (there's no profit in it).

I did a quick google on Chron's as I couldn't remember exactly what it was, followed by googling Chron's and diet. I've only looked into it briefly but it certainly looks like diet plays an important role and that adjusting diet can help.

As it's an inflamatory disease then regularly eaiting anti-inflamatory food would likely help too. I add Turmeric and/or Ginger to the majority of the meals I cook, as they're extremely healthy, tasty and some of the strongest anti-inflamtory foods there are. A good tip is to chop up some ginger root and put it in a jug of water, that you drink and refil throughout the day. It means you're constantly getting a low level of anti inflamatory into your system throughout the day - someone at work found this helped her joint pain. I did a quick google to see if ginger and the like help Chron's and see someone on an online Chron's forum who says ginger helps more than their meds - http://www.crohnsforum.com/showthread.php?t=13034

There was apparently a study done in Japan looking at Chron's where they put one group onto a vegetarian diet and the other ate as normal. Two years later the majority of those on the regular diet had again been affected by Chron's while 92% of those on the vegetarian diet had been free of it for the two years. I'd want to read around more as this is just something I stumbled across but it certainly sounds like diet can have a big effect. Linky - http://nutritionfacts.org/2012/09/13/di ... s-disease/

Once youre out of hospital I would suggest including high levels or anti-inflamatory foods in your diet and probably trying a vegan diet. It might be challenging to begin with but it's certainly doable and if it could help your health and wellbeing it's surely worth a try. You don't necesarily have to do it forever but try it for a few months and see how you feel.

Hope they let you paint and good luck!

Sorry to hear it mate. I can't comment about Crohn's disease. But as you know I have had my share of stays in hospital so I can sympathise. A friend giving me present of W40K Codex Space Wolves was one of the things that helped get me get through the long recovery. I read that book cover to cover incessantly. Hope you can get done some gaming prep of some sorts to keep your spirits up.

Best wishes

James

Thanks all for the kind messages, I very much appreciated them!

I'm not out of the woods yet, but I got put back on a medicine today which had previously kept my Crohn's under control. Hopefully in a few days I should be much better.

I've literally just arrived back home and I'm going to put my feet up and rest for the evening. I'm looking forward to tomorrow and having a look to see what I've missed over the past week!

Hope everyone here is well!

Great to see you back, did you manage any painting inside? Hope the drugs work wonders.
