Well, if we are allowed to bring up TV shows as well as movies, then my top 5 becomes (in no particular order)

Babylon 5
Star Trek DS9
Firefly
Star Wars (all 6 movies, the prequels really aren't that bad)
Stargate SG-1

With honorable mentions for Farscape, Classic Trek, Doctor Who and Robotech

The only problem with Children of Men is the charisma-void that is Clive Owen...in every scene. Always. Other wise great.

Am i the only one who liked Transformers One [the beef excepted] ? i thought it zipped along ok and never took itself to seriously. Some nods for old fans and some great comic moments (transformers trying to hide in a suburban garden.) Ok most of the action scenes were like watching (and listening to) an earthquake in a saucepan shop but worth it for optimus kicking butt on the freeway... which was homaged/ripped off in the 2nd best scene in Soporific Dim.*

*The best being twatting the monster with a ship.

Did we somehow miss mentioning Neon Genesis Evangelion?

Giant Robots? Angelic Super Entities? Freudian Psychoanalytical Issues? Giant Cross Shaped Explosions? Jewish Mysticism (which makes me chuckle a bit when I watch but I can say it is about as exotic to someone from east asia as most esoteric asian stuff is to westerners :D ), the Apocalypse, the Garden of Eden, More robots...

If we're going to delve into tv, how about...

Space Above and Beyond
Space 1999 - admittedly this is a show from youth, so I don't know if it aged well

Well technically they were also movies but yeah we've long ago busted into TV land so go with it, man.

I LOVED S:A&B. So much potential. I also had to say that I actually liked Caprica. They just needed a whole load less of the V-World crap.

Captain scarlet. Not the new ones (cgi) but the original. Its still pretty damn good, looks great compared to some TV from the time and has some fantastic stories. The scenery is so well built- I always find it inspirational to watch while making terrain!

I cant stand BSG and caprica. I wanted to like it- Ive tried forcing myself to watch it three times now, but i never get past the first three or four episodes.

Blakes 7- aged badly, but it has some really, really dark story lines right from the get go.

Curreently ingesting everything 17th century eastern europe related. I heartily recommend "With Fire and Sword" directed by Jerzy Hoffman. Great movie :)

Bit of Friday night fun:

I'm a big fan of Jaws and discovered this on Youtube, absolutely cracked me up!

It's my thread so I've decided for a laugh everyone can share movie parodies here over the weekend. Best one doesn't win anything other than the respect and gratitude of the forum. As prizes go that ain't much!

I was really getting into the first half of it, reminded me a lot of Planet B (a radio 4 sci-fi drama series from a few years back) and then the second half was … disappointing :(

I watched a fair bit of Space 1999, think the BBC repeated it in 1999 or 2000 and i used to watch it before dinner :D It was looking pretty dated then as it was :P

Another vote for Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop from me, i've yet to watch Neon Genesis Evangelion.

It's late at night so here's what happens when Star Wars meets Snatch. It's not for the kids, expect very strong language that will offend from the outset.

I watched Chronicle the other day. Zero plot other than "teenagers discover they have superpowers" but I actually quite enjoyed it. Fun.

Brilliant film. doesn't try to explain too much, and doesn't bog the film down too much unnecessary filler plot like so many other films of today. The nod to Akira makes it the closest thing to a live action akira we have gotten so far anyway. I wish more films were like this. Simple, direct and does what it advertises. I dread a chronicle sequel! ;)

Just back from seeing Gravity in 3D. Jaw-dropping! Go and see it in the cinema, it won't be the same on the telly!

I urge everyone to heed my words: never EVER watch Storage 24. It's pure gash.
