Post subject:  English Civil War - resources

I realised recently that I know very little about the ECV, and - being English - this is pretty poor. Can anyone suggest a good web source that will give me a semi-in-depth overview of this period of English history?

Thanks.

There's a game on it that was pretty well-received in the boardgaming hobby.

There's also a fairly interesting argument that the American Civil War was, to a fair degree, a descendant of the ECW 4 generations earlier -- at the time of secession, many in the South liked to compare themselves to cultured 'Cavaliers'... which should have raised some red flags as they contemplated treason... um, performed their net assessments.

It was interesting to me: the fellow pictured in my Avatar was a hardline Republican in Vermont around the time of secession. His great? grandfather emigrated from East Anglia early in the 18th century -- fairly likely that his father and/or uncles served the English Republic.

Also interesting: Goffe, Whalley, and Dixwell all gave their names to streets in New Haven, CT, where I live now.

For text:
Wedgwood, C.V. A Coffin for King Charles: The Trial of Charles I sounds interesting. Wedgewood was an excellent popular historian who focused on the 17th century.

Thanks guys. The Wiki link was a good start, but something a little more in depth to get my teeth into would be great too. Carrington; fascinating stuff, thanks.
