Post subject: | Uh, hi |
Hello everyone, I'm new here and I thought I'd introduce myself. I'm a long-time wargamer from Austria (dammit, has it really been 20 years now?) and I've only recently gotten into Epic and naturally I've ended up here. And here's how it went: Some friends and me started playing Battletech in the early 90s and after turning our noses at Warhammer for a some time ("Feh, those models are much too pretty. Definitely a kiddy game! Real men play with robots that look like fire hydrants!") we eventually got hooked on 40k and all its side games. Then we tried to get into Epic. This was around WD 192-197. They were still running the odd Epic battle report and I just loved the ridiculous look of the titans and gargants. However, we just couldn't get our hands on any of the starter sets. Then they announced Epic 40k and there was much rejoicing. We had set aside some money for the game and were waiting for the releases. Then white metal happened. GW raised its prices by (in some cases) more than 30% and Epic was no exception. I remember standing in a gaming store in Lower Austria glancing back and forth between a box of metal assault marines and a Thunderhawk gunship blister in disbelief. They price was almost the same. Epic 40k was the first GW game that was too expensive for me to get into. The new Warlord titan and Gargant designs didn't help either. Some years later I bought the basic box off of an acquaintance, but never did anything with it. Fast forward roughly 15 years. I'm GMing Rogue Trader (the RPG, not 1st Ed. 40k) for my friends and it occurs to me that it might be fun to dig out that old Epic 40k box and use the models to portray a planetary assault and out of curiosity, I look if the game is still available from GW. "Yup, the prices are still ridiculous. But I can download the new rules for free. Hmmm. But what about all the other armies there were?" *googles* "NetEpic? What's this then? OH eff me! This is just awesome!" On a whim I ask in my FLGS, if they've still got some Epic minis lying round. The employees drag out 4 boxes filled with used models. I'm not sure what else happened that evening, but the next morning I had a ~15.000 point Ork army and my credit card was trying to commit seppuku in the living room. So I asked some friends if they'd like to give Epic a go. It's like everybody had just been waiting for someone to start. The FLGS still had enough Eldar for another army. Another friend threw money at Ebay until he got a ridiculous amount of Squats. We've also got a Space Marine player and it turns out there are more people playing in our area. Everyone's working on at least one more army. I've ordered some stuff from DRM and EW to check their quality and I'll be using a lot of their stuff to build up my IG. Hunting for Tau models has proved fairly frustrating so far, though. I've been reading these wonderful boards for the past few days and I'm overwhelmed by the amount of ressources, information provided and by the astonishingly beautiful modelling and painting people have done. In fact, I'm kinda intimidated, as I'm not sure there's anything meaningful I can contribute (I'll probably be busy assembling miniatures for the next few months). So, hi everyone, I'm Michael and I'm hooked on tiny metal men. |

[chorus] Hi Micheal! [/chorus] Tiny metal men are indeed addictive. In fact the only known cure to the addiction is more tiny metal men. Good to have you around. |

Otterman wrote: You're referring to Tauren? Precisely. Oddly though, they tend to loose their horns, if you shorten their name. Still got hooves, though. ![]() |

Hallo!! Wie geht´s?? Welcome, I lived in Wels some years ago, very nice country. Try not to see the amazing miniatures that some people on these forums design and make, or you will be spending huge amounts of money >:D |

lord-bruno wrote: or you will be spending huge amounts of money >:D *looks at his shelves of books and miniatures* Uh, I think it's kinda too late for that. ![]() We recently had a small gaming con in Vienna. And I used it to sell a small portion of my gaming collection ( but for some reason nobody wanted my 28mm squats) . The wife was quite happy to see all of it go. If only she knew where all the money's going. ![]() I'm an adult education teacher and right now it's crunch time as all my students are preparing for their final exams and I'm spending all my free time correcting and editing their papers. Hopefully I'll have time to do some painting during the Christmas holidays. Also, Wels is a bit small (in my opinion), but it's got some awesome restaurants. Did you ever go to "Wirt am Berg?" their "roastbeef with lemon crust" is to die for. |

No, I didn´t ![]() I also ended up getting rid of all my 15 & 28 mm stuff, and building 4 big Epic armies (6mm for ever!!!!). |
