This follows a discussion Matt and I had last night after a game. I'm curious to know why people play? Do you play to win money? Just to win? For the competition? The challenge? For a good game? For fun? I also wondered if the reason for playing affected the way someone plays a game. Meaning, does it affect their army choice, how forgiving they are when it comes to the rules, suggestions to the opponent, etc. |

You can win money?!?! Knowing my luck over the years, I'd get taken out back & beaten till I hand over my cash ![]() Seriously though, thats a good question.... When I first started it was because the mini's looked so cool, the image on the front cover of WD108 just hooked me. Nowadays? Mainly for the fun of it, win or lose doesn't matter as long as it's a giggle, but also partly for the challenge, which could be why my group has some mnany modifications to the rule-sets.. If we don't like it, or dont think it plays how we want... out it goes.. |

I play because I love to paint miniatures, and toss dice. I play Epic, because the sight of a 6'x4' game of epic going on is a stunning sight. Your battlefield is almost 5x bigger, and thus the perspective of the "camera" zooms out, making your 28mm skirmishes have more of a context. |

For the drama! I don't care if I win or lose so long as it makes a good story ![]() When your opponent is of the same mind it becomes more like role-play than a competition. |

Winning is the ideal goal. But, primarily, its to make a good showing/be competitive. |

Maybe that's where Phil Jackson was coming from. I'd say I play 'to play.' |

I'm recalling a particular story of you pushing recently cast jetbikes around while making jet plane noises... as your wife enters the room. |

Are you saying you don't line your tanks up and drives them around like Hot Wheels cars? ![]() ![]() Moscovian wrote: I play Epic to impress the chicks. Right there with ya! Oddly enough every time I go to Battle Bunker there seems to be a couple of "hott" chicks nowadays. Before it was only my wife. That must be cutting into some gamers hobby fund to keep hiring these girls! lol! |
