Battle of five armies is now available in the UK online store http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefr....=300808 Sorry if this is old news. What puzzles me a bit is that it is releassed as a boxed set. I thought SG couldn't afford to do that anymore... I suppose it has been in the works for quite a while but it is stilll a bit odd that SG releases a brand new game with 5 core armies to complete when Epic is beiing put on hold. Oh well. It still looks pretty cool. Does anyone know if it is based on the Warmaster engine or an entirely new rules set? Cheers! ![]() |

It is based on the warmaster engine. The specialist games guys are supporting it, but didn't develop it. |

Hi, It'll be interesting to see who they blame if sales aren't great then. ![]() I like the look of some of the units, especially the Storm Giant. I may pick up a few to add to my Warmaster stuff, but I doubt I'll buy the game unless someone convinces me its worthwhile after playing it. If anyone who picks it up could post a review it would be appreciated. Cheers, Freshmetal |

Hi! It seems anything with teh SG label is getting a bad rap due to lackluster support. Oh well, thats the GW way nowadays.... Primarch |

... and I would guess the reason they have the money to release it as a boxed set with plastics is because they (GW) get money from the LOTR license to do LOTR related stuff.. (also why they have released various LOTR plastics- I don't think they'd have done the Murmak otherwise...) or something like that. ![]() |

I bought quite a few GW LOTR figures as I really liked the models. However battle of 5 armies just does n't do it for me. Then again I never got into Warmaster. Maybe if they had more tanks and titans.... ![]() Cheers James |

It should be noted that GW get NO money for the LOTR licence and actually had to pay arm over fist for the licence. They had to pay shedloads for it. They then hope to make it back by selling LOTR stuff. |

I'm planning to use the figs in my 10mm Warhamer Fantasy armies. ![]() If I bought comparable Warmaster figs separately it would cost: 4 Packs of Goblins: ?24 4 Packs of Wolf Riders: ?24 4 Packs of Wargs (dire wolves): ?24 1 pack of Men with Bows (Bretonnian Bowmen): ?6 1 pack of Men with Spears (Bretonnian men at arms): ?6 2 packs of Dwarf Warriors: ?12 2 packs of Elves: ?12 2 Packs of elves with bows: ?12 3 packs of Giant Eagles: ?18 TOTAL: ?138. And add to that the scenery... Of course, WM figs are metal while the Five Armies figs are plastic, but still. ![]() |

Hmm.. okay, guess it was worthwhile adding me disclaimer then.... ![]() lol.... but they are contractually obliged to produce a certain amount of LOTR stuff while they hold the licence, are they not? ![]() |

I don't know the details, but I would suspect (from my knowledge of merchandising) that they are not contractually obliged to produce anything, but are obliged to pay the Tolkien Estate and New Line Cinema a lot of money. The licence will allow them to do certain things, but not others. For example they can produce games and miniatures, but are now allowed to produce t-shirts for example. There are a few cases I have heard of where someone holds the licence for something but has not actually produced it for a variety of reasons. It should be noted that GW have two licences, one from New Line for stuff related to the films, such as the Mumakil already mentioned, and one from the Tolkien Estate for stuff from the books (not in the films) such as the Five Armies game about to be released. |

The BoFA game is a liscence from the Tolkein Estate and has nothing to do with New Line. Probably not much of a difference really but one side effect is that GW has, I would think, more latitude to make their own design decision about figures etc. Still must cost them a bunch though |
