Now if there was anything that takes the cake, it is normally Elric from Stormbringer killing hosts of Daemons by himself

So let's name them; the 40K stories that make you go "what a load of rubbish" - the kind of stuff that if it was replicated in Epic, the outcome would/should be a lot different

My one:

I am reading Sons of Dorn at the moment. I have just read how 49 (?) Scouts (albeit with commanders) defeated over 2000 ecstatic troops in Close combat (the last few with bolter fire) to the loss of only 3 scouts who were shot with las rifles. Now it is not like they have power armour, they are wearing scout armour.

So that is 10 scout stands to two waves of over 200 units in each wave - ABSOLUTE RUBBISH IMO!

Well, you went and read the Black Library. It's your own fault, really.

Well I still have 3 more to read after this one, so it may be a while yet before I learn my lesson :)

I've always had a hard enough time buying the basics of the 40k background

Mephiston choking a greater daemon to death as related in the latest Blood Angels Codex. I wasn't aware a daemon, sustained by the warp, had to breathe.

Are you ******* serious?!

Now that is going to far. I think it is time I release some spiel I found so Khorne can get his dignity back:

Quote:
The Seventh Black Crusade occurred in 811.M37. The forces of Chaos spewed forth from the Eye of Terror past Cadia and then disappeared. This is where it earned the name, the Ghost War. The following years saw a game of hunt and seek which spread confusion, paranoia, disinformation and deceit. Raids became commonplace in far-flung areas but eventually they went back to the Eye and mankind had to simply wait for the next attack.
Also, sometime in this period, the Blood Angels suffered a great massacre at Mackan at the hands of a large group of Khorne Berzerkers led by Abaddon the Despoiler.

Yay!!

I can beat that, in 'Brothers of the Snake' by (the normally realatively grounded Dan Abnett), which has a scene where ONE squad of 10 Space Marines slaughter (that's right, not defeat, not rout, but KILL) EIGHT THOUSAND Dark Eldar, in one attaack.

Seriously, what?!?!?!?!! ??? :-\

Also, speaking of Mephiston, GW have completely gone over board with him now as a character in 40K - he's now more powerful than a freakin' Chaos Daemon Prince, for frakk's sake ::)

Don't forget the squad of Ultramarine Terminators who fend off a couple million Tyranids or something ridiculous like that.

Are you talking about the 1st Company in the Northern Polar Defense Fortress on Macragge? Still ridiculous, but different by an order of magnitude.

LOL, I find it funny that people would expect anything different. You guys need to remember that 40k and as such there books are for 10year old kids and therefore the marines must win.

Maybe they were "ecstatic" as in suicidal. 2000 guys leapt onto the scouts blades ;)

40K fluff is rubbish ... hence Epic Fluff is rubbish ... I buy almost all of the Epic models/figures because they are kind'a cool, most of the time, silly many of the times and just plain dumb some of the times ... ;D I "cherry pick" bitz & pieces from the Fluff with a "Field Marshal's sweep" most of the times. And rarely use a doctor's scaple ... more like a Klingon Bat'lath ... :o My SMs are in Rgts ... NOT Chapters ... Chapters are clubs of old ladies and nuns baking cookies for widows, orphans and the homeless ... Not military organizations ... ::) Mind you I have been doing Epic since '90. and have 11 or 12 Epic Armies ... :P Titans are mobile weapons platforms to support ground forces, like a land battleship. No close combat weapons ... Titans shoot long ranged heavy weapons ... period. Nothing is painted in circus colors ... save for a few odds & ends ... 8) At least that's the way I see it ... :P
