Wow. This is a little embarrassing, but I just read over the Living Rulebook on the Fanatic site and now I am dying to get the game. I have never played Blood Bowl, or even really took two seconds to look at it, and I wish I had gotten it sooner. I have to admit that I am a guy who likes games with guns and explosions, so I am a little late getting into the Warhammer World. I have always loved Man O' War, but recently I picked up WFB 6th Ed (my first Warhammer game) and Warhammer Quest and really like them both. To be honest, I love Warhammer Quest and when I showed it to my gaming buddies they were impressed too. I used to be all about the 40k universe but I just haven't been very interested in the newer armies like the Necrons and Tau, and I am not sure I like where the game/universe is going. I am not really interested in BFG either and as you all know EpicA isn't rocking my world. That being said, my dumbass is impressed with the Warhammer World and I guess that is where my head is now. Between Man O' War, Warhammer Quest, and Blood Bowl, I see three really awesome games that I am going to hold on to for a long time to come. It has even kicked back my interest in previous Epic games, which have been at the top for more than a decade now. Anyway, I guess I want to hear some opinions about Blood Bowl from the guys who have played it, and whether or not I should invest in a team other than the Orcs or Humans. They seem like a classic match-up. . . |

Blood Bowl is a very cool game, and quite cheap to get into as well. You only need a basic team of 16 (11 + 5 subs). You can then get cheerleaders, medics, coachs, refs, star players and secret weapons (and not so secret like the Dwarf Doom Roller). It is a really good game and works well as a league/campaign. Also, it is good to get simple Warhammer minis and convert or just use them as players. Dont play Undead, they are way too easy and by the middle of the season you have a team of about 34, 12 of which are members of the other side that you have killed. The current version is V4, and I have not played since V1 and V2. It is a really fun and relaxing game to play, and since the rules are free, you cant go far wrong. There are tactics, but these often take a back seat to simply grabbing the ball and charging up the field taking out as many of the other side as you can. |

If you are currently into the fantasy world, check out Mordheim too. A very good game in a similar vane to Necromunda. |

Ah, I didn't realise that the online game was run by fanatic! I thought it was set up by a fan on an independant website. Cheers Chris |

I think that there is a cross-purpose here. There is the official online game, which is the erulebook which can be downloaded and changes according to feedback. Then there is the fan-based game. This (last I heard) was still being developed by a bunch of fans and is a web computer game based on the board game. I guess that this is OK as it does not compete with the tabletop game really. |

You can play Bloodbowl via email if you're on Windows. It's awesome. http://www.blood-bowl.net/PBeMTool/ If you're looking for cheerleaders, coaches and other cute miniatures, check out Shadowforge (available in the US through thewarstore.com) http://www.shadowforge.com.au/characters/ |

Hi all, Just want to set the record straight on a few things here... ![]() Right. GW have published the official blood bowl rules on their website, BloodBowl.com and it's known as the Living Rulebook, or LRB. It's currently at version 2.0. BB has the biggest online following of all the specialist games, so Jervis created the Blood Bowl Rules Committee (or BBRC) with the express aim of allowing veteran players the world over a chance to input the future path the game took. Overall, there are 7 members on the BBRC, including JJ and Andy Hall (the guy at Fanatic in charge of BB magazine). The BBRC get together every October to perform the rules review where all the questions raised by the general gaming community are address. We should be seeing the outcome of that within 2 weeks or so, so expect an updated LRB. The online Blood Bowl game you are referring to has two forms. The first is PbEM or play by email - I don't personally like it, but it is very true to the game and immensely configurable. The second and easily the best is Java Blood Bowl. THis is an awesome fan made version of Blood bowl, given away free (so no IP infringement, and hey it promotes the game too). Check out the site at javabbowl.no-ip.org but expect it to be down - it gets so many hits the main page usually dies. Worry not though as there are plenty of mirrors and you will get what you want eventually. One of the biggest fan run sites is blood-bowl.net. Run by a guy called Tom Anders, he runs the largest online collection of Blood Bowl history, figures, rules and leagues on the web. Not bad for a one man show. Another good fan site is House-Rulez, which is the unoffical Blood Bowl fanzine. Recently, I took over as editor of this publication and issue 5 should be out next week. The largest BB forum on the web is TalkBloodBowl and pretty much anyone who is anyone in the Blood Bowl online world posts there. However, the biggest change in the BB world in recent years was the formation of the NAF. NAF stands for Nuffle Amorical Football (a parody of NFL based on the "Blood Bowl God") and is an independent body of coaches from around the world. Independent from GW but VERY closely linked to Fanatic, the main aim of the NAF is to promote BB tournaments across the world. So far this year, there have been over 50 NAF sanctioned BB tournaments. In March, the Blood Bowl Finals themselves were held at GW HQ and over 170 coaches from around the world attended, the furthest being from Singapore and many from Europr, the US and Canada. (I came 147th, boo hiss ![]() ![]() I also held my own tournament in Cambridge, UK, in September and 36 coaches attended, the furthest coming from Spain!! Since it was NAF sanctioned, Fanatic sent loads of cool prizes including some of the great new vampires that aren't out yet! Anyway, that'll do for now - anyone got any questions? ;) |

Blood Bowl looks an interesting game to get into. However, I rarely get to game often, and when I do its against opponent who only collect 40K. (I have two fantasy armies and lots of epic that dont see any light) and if we do deviate from 40K, its usually BFG. Its a shame, maybe one day. |

it is a shame - it's a superb game and the only GW game, along with epic, that I think is worth playing. Sadly 40k is too messed up, along with WFB to a lesser extent. BFG was interesting but needs more development I think. |

Maybe I'll push my friends more, but first I'm starting wth epic. Also on the agenda at some point will be Mordheim, Necromunda and Inquisitor along with BB. |
