WOW..... I bet she is the same person that doesn't let her kids go on field trips and interact with other kids. She does know this is an ADULT game made in the 80's? The reference to our world history isn't a secret. *Sigh* Damn Tree hugging hippy liberal conspiracy nuts. |

Merely advertising the page on such a forum is giving him/her more clout than his/her obviously paranoid and uneducated beliefs deserve. Ignore the page. If we were in a village, he/she would be the resident idiot. |

This person has missed the fact that Warhammer 40,000 is basically made of irony and comical excess, and taken everything at face value. |

People like this always miss one key point; Children, particularly boys, are well aware of the difference between fantasy violence and real violence, loving one while abhoring the other. Just about every boy ever draws pictures of bombs, blood and guns, yet also understands that this would be a bad thing to happen in real life. Noone gives kids enough credit. This is an interesting article on the subject: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/8045929.stm |

You are absolutely right, Zombo. Interesting article, by the way. This reminds me of an incident that happened at a local hobby store. This happened at least 25 years ago, so some of the details might be fuzzy. The store, which was called cleverly enough "War and Pieces", carried primarily plastic models, history books, books like the Osprey series and magazines for making and painting historically accurate models and dioramas. There was also a large selection of wargames from Avalon Hill, SPI, etc. One day this woman walks and has a look around the place. She looks at the models and thumbs through some of the modeling journals. Apparently this appalled her, because she thought the hobby store glorified war and in disgust she dropped one of the magazines on the floor and stormed out calling everyone there a "warmonger." This narrow-minded view of our hobby is obviously still alive and kicking, as seen in the article TRC has kindly posted for our amusement. I don't know if any of you clicked on that website's homepage, but it looks like there are a bunch of links to conspiracy theory articles. Frogbear, I'll like your sentiment, also. ![]() |

You mean naming characters after genocidal war criminals, mass murderers or religious figures and paraphrasing places, events and institutions from some of the darkest chapters of human history might cause offense...? Actually I'm a bit surprised they've managed to steer clear of using "popular" offensive areas such as Holocaust so far (Though Fabius Bile does have a Dr. Mengele thing going for him). I suppose they're keeping that until the day they know they've run the company into the gutter anyway. Offensive terminology is a matter of point of view and there's always bound to be nutters who don't understand irony nor have a basic concept of the labile nature of symbols and terminology. |

Heh, the page has gone now, replaced with a sarcastic rant. Total drivel, of course, on many levels. As for holocaust references, how about the Lichemaster, Heinrich Kemmler? |

Ah yeah. Forgot that one. Well spotted LI. Why does that name remind me of that Monty Python sketch with Mr. Hilter and Ron Ribbentrop ![]() |

The question in response to the "study war no more" crowd: are you truly a pacifist? Or is war just something best ignored until it goes away? I have some respect for the former... I tend to worry the latter are all too susceptible to the "2-minute hate." Michael Howard's argument has some interesting resonances in debating whether war-gaming produces war-mongers. http://cup.columbia.edu/book....edition |
