Perhaps someone with the US WD can confirm... I have heard that there has been a 'blip' in the Imperium. Apparently, the Astonomican disappeared for a short time, and some locations are becoming or are already lost. Also, I have heard that the Ad Mech have discovered that the Golden Throne is starting to fail... ![]() Any further details? |

Yes. But essentially this is it. The Astronomicon ha da "hickup" and thousands of spaceships got lost. Te Mechanicum discovered faults in the Golden Thorne that they can`t repair. |

Also the Realm of Ultramar is losing contact (communication) with the rest of the Imperium due a weaker astronomican. This while Ultramarines & Tau battle against each other on a Necron world who awake. Ultramarines order exterminatus but give Tau time to evacuate (!). Quite a novelty for xenos-hating space marines. Speculated: On the throne, time for Cypher to use that Lion Sword and kill the Emperor, ready for the Starchild to be born. |

Wow, that sounds like pretty major movement for what has been a very static universe. Will stay tuned ![]() |

Will stay tuned ![]() It's not really a movement, more a 'deepening of the status quo'. The Imperium has always been on the edge of collapse, they're just making that theme more overt in the 5th edition rulebook. Ultramar will never fall, the Emperor will never die, Abbadon will never win ; Warhammer 40,000 is a setting, not an evolving story. |

It's weird, but I'm actually rooting for the golden throne to fail, so that the Emperor can be reborn. Strange that I have emotional buy-in to such a rarified fictional character. |

Strange that I have emotional buy-in to such a rarified fictional character. But what if he fails to be reborn? What if the Golden Throne breaks and he just fades away like smoke... ...humanity would be plunged into darkness, and after a short, violent struggle, the long-rotten Imperium would die. That's the kind of 'future' for the Imperium that I like. ![]() |

I thought Eldar travelled along the webway and the Tau used a faster than light technology completely unrelated to the warp. |

Eldar do but they often have to do Warp travel when their webway paths have broken down or don't exist. I thought the Tau used warp travel? |

Corrrect, the Tau make small "warp-hops", the lack of any navigators or astronomican is the main thing limiting their expansion. Eldar do make similar short hops through the warp but only if absolutely vitally necessary. Otherwise they use the webway, but they can only go somewhere with an existing webway portal. Necrons are the only race suggested to have developed FTL technology (which is just daft if you ask me, what's the point in needing to invent an entire alternative universe to get around the FTL issue only to give FTL travel to a race anyway?) |

Because Necrons are the only immortal race ; Necrons don't need true FTL... they just need patience. |

Quote: (Evil and Chaos @ 22 Aug. 2008, 18:55 ) Warhammer 40,000 is a setting, not an evolving story. I mostly agree, but they do move the "storyline" forward from time to time, if for no other reason than just to introduce new lines of minis and marketing campaigns. |
