Hey everyone!  Nice to see Epic still has a nice sized crowd interested in the gamed, I'd always thought it was one of the best put out by GW.  I played for for a few years when it came out, and even after it sort of died on the block we dragged it out on occasion to play and I'm thinking my local area might be ripe for some growing interest, but I have some questions.

First, I noticed there's NetEpic, which I'm slightly familiar with, and then "Epic Armaggedon" and I'm curious what that is exactly - how close is it to the original set of rules and so on?

Second, how much of the Epic line of miniatures are still available?  Currently I have a nice sized Ork collection and Imperial Titan Legions but I'd like to put together a solid Marine force and I'm wondering if it's still possible to get these minis or do I need to start looking for alternatives?

Are here threads, web pages or something else that I need to read through that will help me get back into this great game?

when it comes to space marines there is close to a full range at GWs online store it a bigger problem with other armies but then again there is always ebay and the trade arie of this site and then there is forgeworld

EA is a free rule set, everything you need would be here:

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws....4900003

It's alternating activations and fairly tactical in comparison to early versions of Epic and 40k.

Everything currently available by GW is here:

After that, there's Forgeworld stuff and eBay for  the OOP.  There's also other companies with 6mm sci-fi lines.  Dark Realm Miniatures and Exodus Wars are the two most popular around here.

Welcome! Epic is DEFINITELY still alive and kicking! and with a growing tournament presence around the UK too!
In my humble opinion Epic Armageddon is one of the best games out there; designed for the players, by the players; over 500 of us took part in the initial playtesting though Jervis Johnson wrote the core rules.  Getting armies together is still easy enough and you'll not find anything that you can't get from GW/SG/FW in the official lists so that's a plus point, not to mention a thriving community of trade on Ebay and on this site itself.
I've not played NetEpic but flicking through the rules i'm afraid it still strikes me as having a few of the things i disliked in Space Marine; over complication amongst others.
E:A however...i think it's as close as perfect as you can get really! It's got detail, but it also runs smoothly, it's intuitive, but also amazingly tactical; an excellent game!
Don't be put off by the fact that it's may seem a lot different to the epic of old' play a few games and see how you go; we're always willing to answer a few questions on here!

ok, as it turns out, E:A was the last edition I played, apparently it's been out for a while?

Thanks for the links Dave, good to see I can still get the core armies out there to play!  Just got to build up a solid marine force now I guess!

What are popular game sizes in points?  How long does it normally take to play an 'average' game of E:A.  I'm assuming with the way you form things into detachments it lends itself well to multi-player games?

3000pts is the standard tournament-sized game.

Two hours, give or take.

Yeah, there are even some rules in the rulebook that note a few different ways of running multi-player games.

4k is also a popular friendly game size in some places; allows you to have more than just one big titan and some aircraft as support! But that's what can make 3k such an interesting tournament size.
Think the britcon tourney is 4k mind...

3000 points is used at most tournaments as games will finish in 2.5 hours. Britcon is 4000 points as you have around 3.5 hours per game.
