Alright all, i've got about 8k of marines sitting around, finally managed to round out my collection with everything i need for it (strike cruiser, extra character pack, landing craft and Razorbacks came through the post a while ago; as well as some nice Mk2 landraiders) and now i want to do something interesting with them; strip it all and start from scratch! At the moment they're in a very basic 'painted when i was 18' dark angels scheme; they don't look terrible but they're definitely not on par with all my other armies; so the question is, what to do? All of the models (think bikes, tanks, etc here) - with the obvious exceptions) are Mk2/Epic40k era models (including Hunters which are mk2 whirlwinds with a mk3 hunter turret on top) so i want to go with an chapter that is fairly 'old' and archaic but aside from stripping them down and repainting them in better DA colour's (perhaps adding more Bleached bone this time) i can't think what to do really! Options runnign through my head at the moment include -Blood Angels (cos i don't have a bright red army yet! My BL are Khornate but very dark!) -Relictors (a cool colour scheme idea involving black shoulder pads perhaps; power weapons etc picked out in blue maybe; but i've already got a 'grey' imperial guard army!) but apart from that i'm stumped! I'm quite a fan of old skool 40k aesthetics (red weapons, chevrons etc) if that helps anyone but think that may be lost in translation especially on stuff like chainswords...finally; one rule: NO ULTRAMARINES! I hate those generic blue bounders! Help appreciated Yrs, R> |

Legio Fausta (translation: the Lucky Legion) - no emblems, and a variety of armour colours including grey, metal, black, blue and dark red, all generally with a very worn look. My own 40K chapter - arrived 6th in a local tourney, which means they really ARE lucky! ![]() Or, for something different - Angels of Fire - red with flame pattern on shoulders. Colourful, and surprisingly easy to paint - flames are easier than any emblem I know of. Unusual too - I will some day paint a force of these for Epic, but other than these chaps I've not seen them used. And they're a bona fide GW chapter. |

quite keen to stick to canonical chapters i'm afraid...Scions of Iron through would be a possibility aside from the fact that my army is'nt very tank based! |

another option might be modelling some decent deathwing and ravenwing figures... adding cloaks and stuff to the marines...hmm... |

So you want bright colours, especially red? What about the Brazen Claws (1st row second from left)? http://uk.games-workshop.com/spacemarin ... gallery/2/ |

Salamanders? Lots of background fluff, excellent colour scheme and special characters/rules etc and you can still use the Dark Angel colour as a base coat so no paint stripping (or am I just being lazy?) ![]() |

I quite like the dark monastic feel of many space marine chapters...so DA's, Black Templars etc did cross my mind, it's not neccasarily something BRIGHT that i'm looking for; but soemthing that will be IMPRESSIVE to see painted; which is why well detailed Blood Angel's crossed my mind. I think the 'architecture' of some of the SM vehicles will go nicely with Crimson Fists; dark blue also allows me to offset if with chevrons on vehicles, detailing in red etc; my only worry is that i'll lose the definition on the bolters if i do them black; will have to make sure to highlight them nicely; or how about gun metal? hmm... |

If I were to start from scratch, I would probably do Space Wolves. |

I prefer the Raptors, especially with the heavy Air Assault presence in Epic. |

I think the Relictors are a good idea, they're certainly different. |
