I found these over at FW:
DEMIURG BASTION CLASS CRUISER
GOTHIC DEMIURG STRONGHOLD SHIP

Doesn't that imply that the demiurgs actually exist?
Or that epilgrims list has made a tremendous impact..?

Sorry, Mr. Erik, but those ships have been around for probably 8 years now.

Yes, I even photshopped those models into the cover of the 2.0 list a couple years back.  The Demiurg were brought in as a mysterious race by GW but never really expanded upon.  There is a LOT of speculation (look for the board member Xisor and all of his posts and you'll get volumes) but truly nothing concrete was ever determined.

What is truly known about the Demiurg:
They are short
They are loosely allied with the Tau
They have those big ships which rely on a high degree of automation

That's it.  There is a concept sketch someplace that had them with tentacles and other nonsense but nothing official.  Per Jervis Johnson, there are no plans to push the Demiurg concept forward AT ALL in an official GW capacity, and -as long as it is explicitly stated that it is a fan effort- ePilgrim could pretty much take it in whatever direction he wanted.

And were the original source of the Demiurg name

Uttermench, heard of ironic statements?

But quite true too. I've not looked at all at BFG. Not earlier, not now. Not more than to maybe get the Imperial Navy craft suitable for my Imperial Guard.

But I must say this puts me in a dilemma. What orbital crafts does squats have?

And what's the connection between Tau and Demiurg (should be capital letter there)?
Did the Tau perhaps somehow save the Squats from extinction and this new mercenary status is as a reward to them for this? Ie the Kroot are to barbaric to stand on their own; the Squats are still "stubborn" and selfefficient enough to mark their independent this way?

A quote on Demiurg and Tau:

Through the Kroot, the Tau were introduced to
the Demiurg, another spacefaring race with
which the Kroot had long experience as hired
mercenaries. Plying the stellar void in
ponderous, stately factory ships and powerfully
armed commerce vessels, this ancient race saw
an unusually strong kinship between
themselves and the Tau. Referred to by the Tau
as the Bentu’sin (Lit: wise-gifted ones), they
declined an invitation to join their Empire.
They did however realize that together they
could be potent allies against continuing
predations against the Orks, as the Bentu’sin’s
history with them in particular was an
exceedingly long one brimming with hatred,
loathing and bitterness. In particular,
Brotherhoods referring to themselves as Thrum
and SrryTok in their unusual, clicking,
consonant-heavy language formed strong
economic partnerships with the Tau. This
relationship resulted in a significant
technological exchange, introducing the Tau
for the first time to an entirely new weapon
system, the ion cannon.
