I am wondering, what do people do to make their PDF army lists small enough to be able to be uploaded. I am only asking because I can't seem to get my lists dwn to the size that others do. For example I have just finished a tech guard list and it is about 250KB in size, but Chroma's is only 75KB. ?Yet they look about the same in word size and number of text boxes. I am using word '07 with a PDF converter. ?Do I need to use something different? EDIT: What the hell?! the post titles gone strange. It should read "How to make PDFs small enough to upload". |

I use CutePDF virtual printer to make my .pdfs. I ususally lay out my docs in Word 2002, then "Print to PDF" with CutePDF, that way, it's only the actual words and pics in the pdf; your "converter" may be including all the background/unseen layout data that MS seems to cram into Word documents. Also check to see if your "converter" is saving the text as text or if it's saving them as individual graphics... that'll fill up a lot of bytes! Could you email me your "jumbo" PDF? I'll see if I can detect any other issues with it. |

I tried using Adobe suite with word 07 for DRM documents and the resultant PDF was enormous - too big to feasibly make a download of. The good news is Doug's trying to sort me out with a new version of my aging Adobe suite to try and give us some more options. (and of course, there's more big DRM documents on the way ![]() The bad news is I cant say anything to help, other than I can empathise with you & it seems our proposed "fix" of an Adobe suite update might not help after all! |

I use OpenOffice Writer on both Windows and Linux machines to create my PDFs. In fact I did the Ork Hunters and Savlar Chemdog army lists with it, and their underlying template. The results are good I think. ragnarok and Hena, you can change the PDF JPEG compression, that might help with the size of your files. Under File > Export as PDF... select the file you want to save as. Then you should be given the PDF Options window. You can choose your JPEG compression there and image res as well. That will reduce the size of a file by a lot. |

We've been testing Office 2007 at work to try and get it and SharePoint 2007 sorted for a rollout next year and long story short 2007 just does *not* play nice with Adobe or other PDF making software. For personal use though the only thing I can suggest is trying M$'s Save as PDF add-in for Office 2007 and see if that helps. Save as PDF add-in |

One of the best programs for creating PDF files from word that I have found is Bull Zip PDF printer. It basically acts as a printer so can take anything you can possibly print on your computer and make it into a PDF. You can adjust the resolution and other settings to make it higher or lower print quality thus you can reduce the size of the file. It also allows you to append pages onto a document you have already created so you could stick a couple of word pages on then some maps from another program then some more word pages. http://www.bullzip.com/products/pdf/info.php edit - make sure you install ghost script for it to work. Both programs are free and don't install spywear or other crap on your computer. |

Thanks for the link Mark_Logue , the printer works and has cut down the file size by 2/3. |
