These were mine:Gaming related - 1. Finish my Epic Iron Warriors, and at-least start on another Epic Army. 2. Finish my 40k Imperial Guard army; if I get this done in good time (i.e. well before our baby arrives!) I will reward myself with another speed paint challenge, this time Chaos Marines 3. Finish painting my UW Syntha before we move to France.
Non-gaming related - 1. Work hard to get our property ready in France for b&b/holiday cottage letting, plus everything ready for the Wargaming side of it. 2. Try my hardest to improve my French, including participation in French speaking forums (the first I'll not have much choice about, the latter will take more courage...) 3. Be a doting daddy to our baby when he/she arrives at end May/early June 4. Write and submit a 40k short-story to a 40k Fanzine, before we go to France... ...and there was more:
Anyway, I've been thinking and on top of my original list I do have a couple of things which would seem more appropriate as resolutions than personal targets:
1: lay off my Ebay-Epic habit 2: read more. Anyway, for my gaming related ones:
1: Well, I finished what I had planned, but have since decided that I'd like to add at least 3 more formations to it. I'll do that sometime this year. 2: Nope, didn't finsh the guard; but have started a new Chaos army anyway! I've always wanted to do a 40k Guard army, but right now I've got a specific idea/background for the Chaos Marines which I'm finiding too interesting/fun to move on to something else. I can see these being my main 40k army now. 3: Yep, did this; I've been debating whether to expand this force to a Metropolis 1,500 point army, but I've got some plastivc Void 1.1 Junkers so I'll do them; when I've time!
Non Gaming: 1: Yep, that's all ready, I'm updating the Wargaming Holidays website in time for when people should be booking their holidays, hopefully they'll keep us in mind for a visit this year! 2: I have made an attempt at this, watching dvds in French or with subtitles, (trying!) to talk to the neighbours; I feel I have improved but not as much as I'd like. My neighbour said something to me today, I couldn't understand a word of it and just looked at him blankly, then he said something to the effect of 'you should be able to speak French!' I've also not taken part on French forums as much as I should have, to my shame... 3:Yep, that one was no problem! Eden is doing well, we all dote on him, he's a very happy baby! 4: Well, I wrote it, but never submitted it; I think my original plan for it was to go back to it after a period of time and edit it before sending it off, but I just didn't get round to it. It's still there to be sent though!
And the extras: 1: Yes, I was very good at this - for about 6 weeks! since we've moved to France I've not had the inclination (or money, to be honest) to do this. That might also have something to do with a massive ?300 pound splurge on Epic minis around my birthday in March... 2: Until lately, when I've not had the chance, I have read a lot, mainly sci-fi. I read 'The Forever War' (the scenes set on Earth had a greater impact on me than the war scenes), 'War of the Worlds' (even though I'm familiar with this from so many different interpretations, it still surprised me), 'Cell' by Stephen King (starts of with a fantastic vein of black, satirical humour, but kind of meanders a bit after; though there are a couple of shocking moments towards the end), and probably the best book I read was 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy (bleak, but brilliantly written, and extremely moving - I'm not ashamed to admit that the end of it did make me shed a tear).
I also read more of the Horus Heresy books, but to be honest I've gone right off them; they've become increasingly formulaic and predictable in their structure, and to be honest a narrative desicion was taken at the end of 'Galaxy in Flames' which comlpletely made me lose interest in the whole series. I started reading Fulgrim, and I'm only 1/3 the way through it because it was so formulaic and predictable; it didn't help to that someone on Warseer blabbed the ending, too I've got Decent of Angels, but haven't been inspired to read that.
