This rules set was mentioned to me, and - being an avid amateur mythology fan - I decided to pick it up. While simple and relatively 'fast', it does seem a good rules set. However, the miniatures are not great. I am very tempted to convert up some minis and go to town with this one. (It might even be very cool to change to 54mm!)

The game uses small warbands, but with points values. This means that it can handle larger games, but is designed for a couple of figures on each side. One side takes the side of the angels and the other the demons. The familiar faces are represented - Gabriel, Abaddon, etc - along with 'minions'.

The rules are simple - a single dice result of a 4+ is always success, and different stats and tests roll a different number of dice. There are even basic rules to create stat lines (so I will be looking through my dictionary of angels and demons over the weekend!). The only problem is that the stats really need 'special abilities' to add to the game, and points values for these are more open to interpretation.

Still, an interesting game.

Anyone else have/play this?

Hi CS,

Heard of it, haven't tried it.

There was another Dante's Inferno game from Global Games that was well-received... very Battletech-like, only with Demons and that whole scene...

The name is escaping me though...

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I've seen models for this or something similar, but I can't remember where. Oh dear, that wasn't at all helpful, was it?

Maksim, it seems that the game that you are thinking of was called Inferno... I will look it up. Thanks.

Ah, those were the ones CS - umm, you were right, I like West Wind stuff but these aren't exactly what I'd picture.

Missed by "that much" Maksim... the game in question was called Inferno.

Still copies floating around on the net for fairly cheap and the minis are still in theory available from Global Games Europe but I have to admit I'm not sure if they're in business any more either.

After a search, I found that this game is currently out of production (it was launched in 1995). It is actually on BoardGameGeek. It looks a bit like Necromunda, but I dont like the miniatures and general theme. It seems a bit cartoony. Does anyone know what the warband and advancement system was like (or even if it had one)? If that is good, then it will be worth picking up.

I have to admit that Lucifers War does hit the right buttons with me. It is activation based, with Action Points. Flights is (obviously!) built in, although simplistically. The rules are slim and you dont get much for your money, but the game seems interesting and flexible while still keeping a good structure if you dont want to make everything up yourself. I am already putting together some of my own rules - for example 'flying swipe' close combat attacks by a model swooping past an enemy and lashing out.

If appears quite dramatic. For example, some Angels get five attack points per attack and nine APs, and each hit drops a 'wound'. This means a potential of forty five dice in an activation, half hitting if the enemy is undefended.

EDIT: I suppose that I could link, for the hard of clicking:

Ohhh. Me likey! I must admit that I dont think that the Reaper Angels are the best models that they do. I prefer my Angels more 'old school' - dark, broody and vengeful!

Hi Guys,

Inferno it was!

And, Iain, I have an extra copy or two if you'd like it.

The minis are back in production and there are even new ones. There is an Inferno Yahoo discussion E-group where you can learn more.

Meanwhile, I'm playing more WHFB with my nephews and mates, and am getting a WAB army ready... LOL ;o)

Happy holidays & Merry Christmas!

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

If there is a decent advancement system for the game, Maksim, I may well be interested. Thanks. Can you give any feedback of opinions?

Thanks for those, although I have to admit that there is something that I am not a fan of in them... I am not sure what, but they remind me of the old Boris V 'warrior' drawings.
