And of course why. For me I wil always remain a fan of AT 1st ed. I play it today as a travel version I made out of card (flat titans!).

A runner up would be Epic 40k as I did like the system.

But I guess I am happy with the current incarnation!

Whoops! Sorry I forget NetEpic. Please spare me! I was going through publication dates in my head and obviously this one has never been published as such.

EA, duh!  I've played SM and E40k but only ever really liked the models that came along with them.  EA is an excellent tactical game.

What's this "was" stuff?!

Epic:A is my favourite... perhaps my favourite minis game over all... though Man-O-War is close... and I love my Men-O-War in Warmachine... hmmmmm...   :D

Sm2 + Titan legions, but it is bad that you forgot NetEpic Chris!  As that is definately where my vote would have gone.  Think SM2 + Titan legions is the closest to NetEpic of the options there.

Has to be EA although I still hark back to those days playing SM with a table full of buildings.

Nostalgia made me vote for Space Marine/Titan Legions.  It's the game that got me into miniatures.

Space Marine 2nd Edition.
I'm not quite sure the edition of TL should be a separate entry.  Maybe.
I like TL, but prefer the purer simplicity of SM2.  SM2 got me into miniatures gaming (unless you count my attempts to re-play HG Wells' Little Wars with green plastic army men and a yellow-pellet gun from 7-11 (really)), and remains my favorite.

E:A is by far the best from a rules stand point. But I started with SM1, and liked much of that system, even if it was only "? baked".  SM2/TL is my least favorite ...  for a number of reasons.

Remember the Titans!  SM2/TL of course, no contest.

I have a lot of nostalgia for SM2/TL which was also how I got into the hobby. However from a pure rules perspective E:A wins hands down.

I do like the TO&E system from the SM1/Codex Titanicus days though.

I'm with Enderel.  SM2+Titan Legions by far  They were the golden days when minis were in the shop, articles were in White Dwarf and opponents were plentiful :)

(NetEpic is the best rule system though).

EA, balanced, elegant, and tactical.

E40k next for it's self-contained approach and clean system.

EA - but then I have never played any of the earlier versions, so I am a little biased :p . That said, it is one of the better systems around in the wider wargaming world IMHOin terms of playability, the extent the games match the background in people's minds, general look/feel/colour etc

Since I was the first one to vote Epic40k  I figured I had to comment.

I liked everything about E40K.
Why not start with the box:
*Two decent sized armies atleast more than a token size anyway.
*Nice modular, practical, durable Terrain. Not to mention actually enough for a game (compare with many other GW games and Necromunda is the only one getting close).
*Loved the compact rulebooks, and the fact that there was three of them.
*No supplements, hate having to buy book after book, just to play my 6 armies. Here you got everything youn needed in one little tight package.
*Not to mention the game was tight ruleswise (if perhaps a little math heavy).
*I liked the way you designed detachments, that were alot more realistic than the strict dogma you see in the other versions.

What I didn't like:
*Strategy cards, to big impact (the thing I always hated with Blood bowl, the right strategy cards could turn the game around).
*Flyer rules, having them turn up (at the best) every second turn was in my oppinion the biggest flaw (but thats because I like planes).
*I didn't like how designing detachments became like a Metagame, and felt like the hardest part of the game.

Second: EA
Third: SM2/TL

But I haven't played SM1 so I could be wrong.
