This is just a first draft.  Those that agree please post here or PM me your email address to sign this with.  Those that think the letter should be altered please give me feedback.  Those who think this is a bad idea please give me a reason why (saying "it is a waste of time" is not an answer since it is my time to waste :;): ).

Andy,

November will mark the two-year point when Experimental Rules for Epic were first discussed in earnest on the Specialist Games forum.  Do date, nothing has been put out by the ERC or SG that would constitute an updated set of rules.

While we understand that SG might be burdened with difficult times, you do have the luxury of a very active community that is more than capable of completing this work fairly quickly (2-3 months) where the current ERC has failed to deliver.

This is nothing personal against the members.  We simply want results and we are willing to do the work ourselves.  We would like to hold public elections where
the community can choose the ERC members.  These elections would be our way of holding people accountable to doing exactly what they volunteered for.

At the same time, we realize that doing something like this would be very difficult without you legitimizing the new ERC and the work they produce.  With that said, we are looking for you to make a decision on allowing and endorsing open elections for the ERC position.  These new ERC positions would come with the caveat that you or Jervis can veto and change any decision made by the ERC at any time, including who sits on the committee.

Our goal is simply to move things along and produce results.  For whatever reason, those results are not happening currently.  Even if the current ERC were to put out something tomorrow, we are concerned that the same thing will happen the next time around when the army lists are under review.  We do not want to wait another two years for the core armies and rules to be reviewed and placed in pdf documents.

Respectfully submitted,

Feedback please.

With the exception of what E&C pointed out, it sounds fine to me.  I'd be interested to see the response to this.

can't think of anything to add, other than possibly adding Hena's alternative suggestion of letting Neal pick ERC members (if he, Andy and Jervis agree to this). Ok, it could result in the same situation 2 years hence - if so we can hold elections then.

Either way in the short term we get a revised ERC, and hopefully at least a first draft ruleset.

I am certainly usually not one to open mouth about rules issues, seeing I never get to play the game :(
However, I see a potential snag:
We would like to hold public elections where
the community can choose the ERC members.
How would this be done? Here at Taccomms, I presume; but is Taccomms sufficiently representative of the Epic gaming scene, and would Andy/SG recognise it as such?
Sorry if I'm playing devil's advocate or just being dumb - as I said, this is not really an area I know much about.

EDIT - whilst I was writing this the above two posts appeared, offering a possible solution?

Oh and everyone's forgetting Sotec, who is still around. :)

Is Sotec going to stick around though?  He is stepping down as the Eldar Army Champ -something he mentioned off the cuff.  Is he staying on the Rules Committee?

Actually October will be 3 years since things were discussed,  and 2 years and 3 months since the experimental rules promised deadline. How time flys...

As for public elections etc - sounds problematic to me for at least the same reasons V posted.

I'd put an option to get new ERC. Meaning Neal moved to rules champ and allow picking people (if he wants to do this).

Agreed.

Good luck - I emailed Andy last month about this and he didn't reply and I know Braveheart did as well
