Post subject: | Planning an E:A participation Game |
Hello all ![]() I just wanted to share what I'm planning in terms of a participation game I'll be holding at the Launch Event of Wargaming Facilities on September 15th. ?As Epic is my favourite gaming system, I couldn't resist the urge to put some of the new terrain I've been building to use in a big game of Epic; I'll be joining 3 tables together and running this game, totalling 10,000 points. The 'theme' of the game is that it's set on Medusa, during the 13th Black Crusade/Eye of Terror campaign. ?The fluff of this campaign states that Medusa, the Iron Hands Chapter's home world, saw a massive tank battle as Chaos tried to take the planet. ?In this game, set during that battle, a force of Iron Warriors and Traitors is assaulting an Iron Hands fortress - perhaps because it contains a depository for the Gene-seed, whatever. Here are the forces I'll be using: Iron Hands Clan and Support Tactical Formation (Supreme Commander, Hunter): 475 points Tactical Formation (Captain, Hunter): 425 points Devestator Formation (Razorbacks, Hunter): 425 points Assault Formation (Captain): 225 points Whirlwind Formation (Hunter): 375 points Predator Formation: 300 points Predator Formation: 300 points Land Raider Formation: 400 points Terminator Formation (Captain): 375 points Thunderhawk: 200 points Thunderbolts: 150 points Warlord Titan: 850 points Total: 4,500 points Forces of Chaos - Iron Warriors, Chaos Navy, and Traitors: Chaos Chosen Formation (Obliterators): 410 points Chaos Retinue Formation (Sorcerer, Rhinos, Havocs, Obliterators): 635 points Chaos Predator Company: 300 points Chaos Land Raider Company: 450 points Decimator Company: 675 points ?Ironlord? Titan: 800 points Hellblade Formation: 200 points Hellblade Formation: 200 points Hell Talon Formation: 300 points ?Traitor? (Cultist) Formation: (Arch Heretic, Chimeras): 350 points ?Traitor? (Cultist) Formation: (Aspiring Champion, Chimeras, Demolisher Tank): 420 points Traitor Artillery Battery: 325 points Traitor Armoured Company: 400 points Total: 5,465 points As you can see, I've taken a few liberties with the Chaos lists to make a combined; and points wise Chaos have an advantage, but then the Iron Hands will have the Stronghold I'm currently building (see the terrain logs...) ![]() The main objective will be for the Chaos forces to take the Stronghold from the Iron Hands, either by breaking or destroying them. ?If I can get the other terrain finished in time, there will be secondary objectives of an industrial area, and a series of hab-buildings for the two forces to fight over. In terms of how the Bastion/Fortress/Stronghold will work in game terms, I'm not going to give it it's own rules, but rather I'm thinking that it affects units in the following way: - It can hold up to 16 infantry units (Termies/Ogryns count as two units), and 20 Tank units - but not War-engine size. - This is divided between the two sides of the Fortress; in effect, it'll have two formations on each side (for the purposes of this battle, the Iron Hands will have the two Tac Formations, Dev formation and Whirlwind formation will start the game in it). - Units in the Bastion gain the following abilities - Reinforced Armour, Thick Rear Armour, Invulnerable Save, Fearless. ?So although they can still be fired at and assaulted normally, this represents the protection offered by the Bastion's thick armoured structure. - Finally, although the Bastion will have all-sorts of weapons and gun ports modelled on it, rather than come up with lengthy stats for these, to keep it simple I'll allow any formation inside the structure to fire their weapons; but they won't be allowed to assault enemy formations unless they move out of the stracture. So, any suggestions, comments, feedback? ?Thanks for looking! ![]() ![]() |

You have bought an Icon for some retinues, but without a daemon pool or daemonic focus you can't use it? |

Well, unless I've not read the list correctly, I thought it added 'leader' ability to the unit; I figured this would be useful regardless of summoning Daemons. Btw, I'm not using any daemons as I don't think I can get any painted in time ![]() |

As all the chaos formations come with a chaos lord of one description or another you get leader for free! It would give you 2 units with an invulnerable save and 2 leaders but personally I'd spend the points somewhere else. |

Okay, I can see your point now; I've edited the list, removed the Icon bearers, and added some more Traitor tanks to one of the Cultist formations. |

Just edited the Iron Warriors list, as I made the silly mistake of putting the points value of four Land Raiders, not Six, which I'm actually taking. D'oh! ![]() |

I think this is great what you are doing and I wish you the best of luck. I think it is great having an Iron Hand Epic force. I came very close writing up an army list for the Iron Hands based upon the background I had read. It is great that you have a Battle Company (2x Tacticals, a Devastator, and an Assault detachment) because that should roughly equal one of the clans. But I will warn you that someone might jump on you about taking an Iron Hand Terminator detachment. Considering how few suits they have and the psychological effects the Terminator suits have on the Iron Hands they are more likely to be worn by squad leaders than by full formations of Terminators. In the army list I was going to write, based upon conversations from the old forum, the addition of a sgt. in Terninator armor (for 25 points) would give that unit the Leader special ability. A second one could be bought for the formation for another 25 points. (Keep in mind that each sgt. in Terminator armor would use up 1 of the 2 upgrades.) Oh, and following the fluff I saw the Iron Hands could not take Terminator units. Either way, I hope you guys have a great time. |

Thanks for your comments, Blarg! ![]() ![]() I've tried to keep what, in my mind, would mark out an Iron Hands army - lots of tanks & firepower - at the same time, keep it a sensible army for E:A (e.g. a bit of Air Support and and some counter-attacking assault stuff). I suppose the normal E:A Marine list is pretty good, generally you can get most flavours of Marine Chapters out of it - but there's some bits of back-ground that you just can't adhere to with it, and the Iron Hand's Terminators is an example of one of them. Anyway, come the day of the participation game, I won't tell anyone if you don't! ![]() ![]() |
