We still use the AT1/SM1 Haywire missile. Everything under the burst template is hit with EMP. Fries all the electronics in Vehicles rendering them KO'd. It will do the same to Robots ... but will it effect Androids ? Like DRM's ? Just bit of a Technical/sci-fi question ... |

I'd tend to say yes. Robots, androids and even cyborgs will probably burn out. In case of cyborgs with organic parts I suspect the neuon interfaces between the body parts will probably overload. Besides a cyborg with the robotic parts destroyed probably won't be of much use anyway ![]() Come to think of it: Would it make sense to have regular organic units (Bio titans, squiggoths etc) affected by the haywire missile as well? Is the missile specifically an EMP blast or a mixture of various effects that will wreck havoc to elecrtical systems? A huge electrical discharge is bound to be bad for anybody's nervous system IMO ![]() |

Well, I agree wth you about the Robots, androids, 'borgs, etc. ... But the rules say only mechanical devices ... however IIRC Dreads are not effected ! The EMP is like what occurs with a nuclear blast ... The stuff that ain't NUC'd, gets it's circuits "cooked". ![]() |

EMP blasts would affect organic components if it hit with sufficient force, and it would need something very powerful. However, electrical networks act as a lightning rod and channel the blast along paths of least resistance, where it then hits vulnerable systems such as capacitors, which then blow. I would say that an EMP blast would affect anything mechanical, but would not be powerful enough for organic forms. Of course, if you are a cyborg and one leg stops working, that could be enough! |

Yep, That's the way I figure it ... I remember the Instructors at our NBC training talking about, radios, vehicles, etc., etc. would be nothing but big paper weights ... not that it would matter ... ![]() ![]() |

Well technically, I am sure that Dreadnoughts would be affected, and bikes would be reduced to pedaling! It was probably ruled that they were not affected to streamline the rules - I mean, where do you stop? Dreads are affected. Bikes? Sentinels? Jump packs? Terminator armour? You should keep in mind that electrical systems would be affected, mechanical systems would not. Therefore, bikes probably wouldnt. I guess you have a few choices: - not affected, since they are in the same category as other units - affected, with some background about how they are more sensative to elctrical surges, sensors or somesuch - invent a new category, including dreads, bikes, sentinels, robots, etc as an exception |

Yes, we thought about that ... so we basically only use it on Vehicles ! I figured it would only effect electrical devices, not mechanical ... But as you noted many things have electrical sub-systems ... SMs would be especially vulnerable as would DRM Andys ... So we'll just leave it as is ... Thanks for the incites WMN & C/S ... you are a well learned crew ! ![]() |
