There are three C64 games that still do:
-Kampfgruppe
-Battle Group
-Mech Brigade.
Assuming you play against a human opponent, of course. The games had several VERY advanced features unheard of back then. Sure, the graphics were what they were. But the content was and still is top class.
1) Simultaneous turns. Meaning side A gives orders, side B gives orders and then the turn is played and the orders executed simultaneously. The one and ONLY way of handling turns in a computer strategy game IMO. This feature was next seen in the Combat Mission series IIRC.
2) Command control. Units had to stay in touch with their HQs to function properly. The HQs in turn had to stay in touch with higher level HQs, from company through battalion to regimental/brigade level. If a HQ was zapped, all units below it suffered from command delay from then on.
3) Command delay. It took some time before orders for indirect fire and movement got through. If the unit was out of command, the delay increased substantially.
