Quote (Athmos @ 07 2004 June,03:48) | Well, i frequent the 2 places, and while i recon there are sometime unfriendly tones or posts, or at least rough tone where there shouldn't be and some lack of moderations in other places, i suppose given the trafic increase since the launch of the game, it's inevitable on an "official" forum. | Athmos,
I agree, the "offical" forum is a place where some good can be found. I just no longer have the will to go find it. My biggest issue was the changes that took place. First when it went from a true playtest forum to an open to the public forum. Then the change that took place when it went from a platest focused forum to a promote and support forum.
When I joined at first there was a feeling of cooperation and respect. Opinions were not trashed right away. People seemed willing to listen and share as well as speak.
Now it is, he who shouts the most wins. The feeling has changed for the worst. One of the final straws for me was when one of the "regulars" posted a fan list, asked for input, and then attacked anyone who did not love his stuff. The moderators did nothing and it turned into quite a deal.
It went down hill quite a bit from there.
I am sure, somewhere in the muck that has become the offical forum there is small dimonds, but I no longer wish to wallow in the muck to find them.

As an historical wargamer I entered the midst of epic with some fear.Within a short period I feel I can voice my opinion well at Epicomms without needing to know all the jargon. Not the same on the official site. I tend to read take notes and formulate my own rules and decions without puting my head over the paropet. No doubt I'll get the balls soon and start shouting my mouth off(without being rude and condensating I hope) Cheers.

Hi!
I have followed the "playtest" forum since its inception, of course, as a lurker, since I had nor have any interest in participating there. From the perspective of an"outsider" the tone is definately different now. To put it bluntly its the usual "fan-boy" paradise official GW boards tend to be. I have seen quite a few posts stating dissatisfaction with epic A and its poor marketing and very unpolite answers. I share Dafrca's appreciation of how things are there.
This forum is a precious thing. The disparity of tastes regarding epic and how it "should" be couldn't be more different, but contrary to the mentioned forum and many others, this forum is great beacuse of that, not in spite of it.
Then again, no worries, everyone who I'd even remotely like or consider talking to on a regular basis are on this forum anyway. Offering elsewhere are slim to none.....
Thanks for having me around!

Agreed ... However, I realize that we can get into a "lively" discussion without being "mean spirited" (usually!)

I lurked here and on the SG forum for a while but decided pretty quickly to join this one and have hardly been back to the other, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Yep, i think this is how most folks feel. I was one of the most active there. I just had to leave. Made me dislike the game for a while too. But I have found a balance. I collect the game, play when I can, and do not go to the SG forum.

Hi!
You mention a telling point Dafrca on how the people that surround you regarding "x" game may influence your perception of a game, even if you'll like or play it.
The main reason I dont play 40k is precisely the people I have been unfortunate enough to come across playing that game. IN the same vein I would play 40k with quite a few of you in a heartbeat precisely because what kind of person you are. Heck, I'll be playing 40k soon enough with my old gaming buddy, not because I have any interest in 40k, but because he is my friend and I figure if he sees something in the game then its a game I will play with him.
Hobby time is too precious. Gaming with the "right" person for you is as important as what game you choose to invest your time in if not more so.

The thing that pains me the most about the 'official' forum, is the feeling of 'NOT' wanting to post, for fear of ridicule and/or agression. This is not the way to attract players to the game. I realize that there are alot of questions that are repeated, and that are in the FAQ over there, but that is never a reason to be rude, or make people feel like you are a bother to their precious time. And that is the reason that I go there to get info, watch the playtest process, read batreps, etc, etc, but I very rarely post. Not true here, as you have seen.
my 2cents,
iblisdrax

Regulars will know that, on the issue of miniature photography, everytime someone asks I generally post the information they need, and have posted this information numerous times and I suspect I will continue to post as and when needed.
I have to admit I have posted more on the SG boards in the last three months and I rarely did before. Though most (if not all) my postings are constrained to the modelling section.

Hi!
But why waste the energy. It would be better used to paint and play.
|
..and thus the reason I wont do it. It would indeed be a waste of effort.
