I had considered a project like this for my 6mm Dirtside games, using vacuformed sheets in standard city-block sizes of 6" or 12" square. Each block would be shaped around a specific theme, such as industrial, residential, commercial, urban residential, park/recreation, etc.;  you could then arrange the "tiles" to form whatever kind of cityscape you wanted.  They'd also be lightweight and tougher than plaster or foam tiles.  I don't have the time or equipment right now to learn how to vacuform, but it's something I'd still like to try someday.  It'd work very well with Orky-style buildings.

I tried vacform a few years ago, biggest problem was I could never get crisp detail ont he models, they all looked kinda melted/rounded. Anyone else tried, or does it lend itself to a certain style of model only?

I think you have to forego a certain level of detail, unless you use a very thin plastic card (which would have its own issues).  Amera Moldings in the UK has some pretty nice 28mm and 1/72 stuff;  I'm hoping they'll try their hands at some smaller fare.

Doug/DRM ... if we make suggestions, may make more 6mm terrain ... 6mm with G/W and F/W a very, very, very, low priority it seems to me ... ???

Hi!

Good point.  :;):

I'd like to see a wide range of race-specific buildings: Ork pueblos, tau domes and towers, Eldar Exodite silos and homesteads - that sort of thing.

Whole city blocks could be done, too, in much the same way that buildings in 40k are done. Of course, some massive hive walls would be neat as well, but I doubt they would sell.

Hi!

I like these ideas. I would like to see them too.

Primarch

I finally remembered what site I had seen the 6mm Ork and Imperial terrain on... the quality is... umm, lets just say very 1980s but the ork buildings may mod out better than the Imperial ones do.

Imperial - 5402 Epicopolis

Ork Buildings - Orkopolis & Orkingrad Tank Factory

Hi!

I like the epicopolus buildings.

Perhaps surprisingly, I dont necessarily see the lack of Epic in the FW06 catalogue as any indication of a reduction in support.

I would simply say that they have made a decision to keep pages down in order to keep it free, that Epic players generally know what is available and dont use the paper version so much anyway, and that people who dont play Epic are less likely to say 'oohh, look at those 6mm minis, I want some of those'.

And thus you don't attract any new players to Epic, being reliant purely on the exisiting player base and thus over time the Epic player base will gradually wither.

It may be a slow death but it will be inevitable.....

It isn't as bad as all that. Consider that FW did include rules for playing Tau in Epic:Armageddon in IA3. They could just as easily not have gone to the trouble (or they could have just included their older rules for E:40k, and ignored the existence of E:A entirely).

A sad irony that FW, a boutique modelling shop, is more willing to support E:A than GW is.

I'm personally thinking about starting to build a Necron army using the 6mm Attrition figs from Alternative Armies.  I'm sure there's a fanlist here somewhere...

uh... there's an official development list for Necrons... on these very boards, in fact.

Couple of points on that count:

1) GW doesn't support E40K anymore so it's not at all surprising that FW went with the EA rules, and;

2) By most accounts those rules seem to have just been added in as an afterthought given the apparently neglible amount of playtesting that went into both the EA and BFG rules.

Which again to me strikes me as someone saying "Oh yeah... we have these models available so I suppose we should put some rules into the book for them. Maybe they'll sell that way."

Hehe... not too mention that the FW models actually work out to be cheaper than the SG models for Epic...
