Even a minor cutback is still a cutback. It is really tiresome to constantly hear bad news from Fanatic. I think the last time I heard some good news which really gave me hope for the future was way back when Jervis first announced that they were working on a new version of Epic. That had some perspective and actually made me feel that something good was happening with the hobby. Jervis had a lot of plans - perhaps more than what was realistic, but still: he had plans! It made me want to invest time and effort in GW stuff again because I thought there was actually room and budget to develop new stuff. Since then it's like every time there's any news about the future it's all about "restructuring" to disguise the fact that support is being cut. Instead of announcing new initiatives we're just being told why scheduled stuff is constantly delayed. It seems we should feel lucky that there's anything available at all...

Cheers! :)

anyone catch yesterdays Specialist Games range cutback anouncement on the Blog? Looks like a bunch of double talk pucky to me. Epic didnt loose any minis but Inquisitor, necromunda and Mordheim all took hits and a few others lost some of their range as well.

Absolutely sickening.

For Christ's sake, they screw us over by butchering the Fanatic Studio, axing our printed magazine and then almost completely stopping new miniature production- and now, "Oh yes, what a good idea, lets remove a quater of the real characterful models from each range, that should make the customers happy!"

The only reason the Epic range has been left alone is that it has next to nothing to remove at all as we've suffered the slow slow pace of releases since EA came out. Wonder what this means with regard to the new lists and their minis. Hah.

Poor Inquisitor players though, how gutting would it be to have literally half your range of models dropped? ????

And Necromunda- the old Orlocks are DECENT MODELS, the new ones are CRAP! Sorry, but its true! Madness- I know I'm writing a quick shopping list now- must get me a Kal before they go.... :(

Tragic.

Cheers, (a very pissed off) ~Gabe

Hi!

Yes, that was my take too. You cant cut anything else from epic, becuase there is NOTHING more to cut.

What take away those silly forums they made that not many seem to like?

Ever since the initial "downsizing" was first commented on I KNEW GW had ditched Fanatic. This news comes as no big surprise.

Hi!

It will continue to be picked apart until there is nothing left. GW has obviously convinced themselves there is no progit in fanatic games. Also the recent setbacks in their profit earnings will make fanatic a real good target to cut and inflate their bottomline.

Perhaps someday those games will be back full force. But that day is not today.

So they want to cut the ranges? They don't want two  Orlock ranges for Necromunda - fair enough, but some of them seem strange (why ditch much of the Inquisitor range?). The usual GW restructuring with some good decisions and some not so good.

Things are still much better for epic than they were 5 years ago. Note WFB and W40k ranges are constantly having pieces retired, finally many of the to SG ranges are having an overhall. Maybe that is a good thing :p :;):

Also I note from the SG website that the Inquisitor cutbacks are not quite as severe as we thought (quote Andy H.):

The models are still on sale and will be until the 10th of December so you still have 17 days to buy something that has particular value to you.

The Specialist Games range had become difficult and expensive to manage and the hobby divisions wished to market it through the catalogues so range rationalisation was inevitable. Models removed were those that had smaller impact on the game and had a low volume of sales.

That being said Inquisitor players might be relieved to here that some models listed are not being removed just simply amalgamated or repackaged:?

'Simeon 38X, Damien Bloodhound, Mutant Emissary Fabian, and Lucrezia Bravus have all been added into the original boxes that they are made from giving the customer the option of doing Damian 1472 or Simeon 38X for example. The Chaos henchmen have just been renamed as Chaos Henchman Conversion Pack. The Kroot mercenary has had the contents changed to contain a complete normal kroot. Not the merc with the funny hands and helmet. The weapons boosters and servo skulls will be only available loose.'

The frustrating thing about this is the number of people, not just on this forum but on other which aren't dedicated to the Specialist Games range, who are saying GW should do more to support them!

There was a thread on Warseer about GW doing a 4th core games system to go alongside 40k, WFB & LotR.  I mentioned how Epic once WAS the 4th core game, and encouraged people to check it out.

What suprised me was the number of people who posted after this saying GW should do more to support these great games they made a few years back, like Epic, BFG & Necromunda.  I didn't recognise many of the usernames, so I don't think it was the usual people who have already had plenty to say about this subject!

This just reaffirms to me that there is the support out there, amongst gamers, for the Specialist Games range but that GW is simply ignoring it.  But so long as 8 year old kids keep buying box sets of Space Marines, I don't think they'll really care  :(

Hi!

GW moves more and more to a faceless corporate entity, where the stockholders dividens are all important and less the customer caring company of old.

Such is life.

I've still got a lot Epic to paint !  And Terrain !  To keep me busy forever ! As I said, once F/Orks are out ... we'll be lucky to see anything Epic for a long time ... if ever !  :o0   We have more then enough rule systems (E:A, NetEpic, Maksim's "Planetfall", etc.)  GZG is most likely going to do Slammers in 6mm, next year (?), plus all the other 6mm companies out there !  So G/W-S/G-F/W ... who needs'm !?!?!   :p    :wow:

It seems to be very common backlog size around here.

Same here.

I still need to assemble/paint thousands of points worth (not to mention ? or $  :p ) of Tyranids, Chaos (SM and L&D), Space Marines, Eldars, Siegemasters and Titans.

And the worst thing is (blame Ebay for that  ), I'm still buying new stuff all the time! And I'm planning on buying some Taus some time next year...

It seems every Epic gamer is also an obsessive/compulsive buyer at heart.   :D
