Heh, now I have an image of a stand of Eldar Guardians with placards saying "Stop Eye of Terror Now!" and "In the Grim Future, There Can Still Be Peace!"

No, I think if anybody said that it would be the Tau. Eldar would want to declare war against Chaos.  :p

If only the Imperium, Eldar, and Tau (even the Squats!) could form ?CATO - Cosmic Armies Treaty Organization...

Figure out a way to get the 'Nids to attack the Necron and then CATO can handle the Orks and Chaos...

And then the weaknened 'Nids. ?

Plus there are the Demiurg and Hrudd somewhere out there? ?

I think the easiest way to take care of Necron and 'Nids is WMD and CATO must have a lot of those! :;):

Perhaps you should lay down a "charter" where whatever conversation type is desired not to occur in these forums could be clearly laid out.

That is the point, I actually dont want to declare any kind of topic 'off limits'. I believe that we are all mature enough to have sensible discussions here. The problem is not necessarily the people or the topics, it is the fact that any post in a text medium can be interpreted in a number of ways, and with subjects such as political bias, people have strong opinions and can be more fragile than normal. I dont for a second believe that anyone would post in an attempt to upset, and if they realised that it was happening they would stop.

We cant take the politics out of wargames, war is an extension of politics. However, we should try to abstract it. I dont think that there are many who actualy like war, but some people find it necessary.

In general, we should try to remain as neutral as we can. We have opinions, and stating them in a matter of fact way should be fine.

Yes, von Clauswitz said that, about war being an extension of politics, but with the Orks, Eldar, etc., there are no real politics, because they don't exist (do they?!). ?

And your point is well taken, C/S few "like" war, some are good at it, but in too many cases it is deemed necessary. ?

After my father being a decorated veteran of infantry combat in WWII, he was dead set against me becoming an Infantry Officer. ?

I think Robert E. Lee, said it best at Fredericksburg, "It's good war is so terrible, as we may grow to like it." ?

But fortunately Epic Wargaming is purely an academic exercise...

Hi!

All wargaming, indeed gaming in a general sense, is a social activity. The game and minis are fun, but is a side show to the true joy of hanging out with good friend shooting the breeze and each others toy armies!  :)

See, even the grinch has a heart come christmas time!  :p

Hi!

Cool!? Dont know. Have perceptions on gaming from the lay public changed? Or are we still perceived as "geeky"?

I keep my miniatures on display in a case in my bedroom, by the time the corresponding girl realises that I am a geek (this is if she misses the three computers in the lounge :S) it is too late.

They grow to accept it :)

To cut a long story short - it is still geeky, but geeks are cool in this generation, so in the immortal words of Trev Parker

"Liv' it, Liv it!"

Hi!

Well, no matter, I'm too old to cash into the "geek is cool" trend.

What did Huey Lewis say in a song, "It's hip to be square!"

I realized yesterday that I'm probably a helpless un-save-able geek.

I took my kids out for P.E. (Physical Education) yesterday and had a fun exchange with a more jock-like teacher:

--------------

Maksim: Sal, wow. You've really gotten better with your jump shots (Sal was playing basketball with some of the children)!

Sal: Yeah, that's what practice will do for you (said somewhat sarcastically).

Maksim: Yes. That's how I got to be a chess master way back when.

Sal: Yeah, that'll really get you girls (Said sarcastically and possibly nastily... I'm not sure and decided to drop it.).

Maksim: OK. See you later.

END.

--------------

I guess us chess weenies will just never get girls... LOL  :D

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

Geeks, rule the world. The richiest man in the world is a geek, as most of the tech CEO's.

I'm a geek with an MD degree and 6 figure income.

I figure we geeks are way ahead of the game...... :;):

So how come I have to carefully balance my mini budget?  ???  In fact, the answer is so obvious I don't want to think about it.

Of course, "balancing" is a relative concept. Anyone who's ready to shell out as much as I am for a SINGLE Epic mini (the Old Imperial Dropship) is IMO a total nutcase.  :blues:
