Agreed that GW (or people they outsource their material to) often change the fluff or reinvent it. A recent example close to home for me was Iron Hands fluff - according to the earlier cannon Magnus Ferrus (their Primarch) disappeared after the betrayal on Istvan V (or IV or whatever it was). However the Iron Hands Chapter believes he will return at a moment of great need.

Then the Horus Heresy novel series came out which apparently has Ferrus being decapitated by Fulgrim (Primarch of the Emperors children), after an allegedly turgid exchange of words. This caused a surprising amount of 'discussion' on many forums with people dividing into several camps. One adheres to the old cannon, no-one saw Ferrus killed he is just missing. One adheres to the new cannon, Ferrus was killed. A third says there are indeed many different stories about what really happened on Istvan all that time ago and the truth is lost.... A fourth says who really cares. ?I oscillate between the third and fourth positions ?

If you don't perform the correct rites to the machine god (annointing mechanisms with oil etc) then machines don't work or break down - what more proof do you need? :;):

Hmm. You might be on to something. My keyboard spirit obviously became angry when I anointed it with cola since now it wont work...
