Sorry dafcra I am just responding to what I see as yet more GW bashing, and I don't think I am being disingenuous at all. I don't see why GW should use their official magazines and the like to promote products they can't sell, unless it is something necessary for a game but not economic for them to make it (like tables).

Fair enough, but what I was talking about was not "promotion of other peoples product". Rather the obvious lack of anything non-GW. I must also point out, in your favor, that in the era I am remembering White Dwarf was a magazine about a hobby. It included articles and ads for many other products besides GW. Some of my best Traveller stuff came from that era's White Dwarf Magazines. Today, it is not a magazine in truth. It is a house organ. It plays with a loop hole in the magazine laws as far as postage etc is concerned, but it in just a house catalog. So in that light, I agree with your point much more.

Oh and you might want to re-look at those hum-vee type vehicles. If we are thinking of the same ones, they were made from GW Marine Landspeeders and Ork Wheels. Very cool idea.

However I would also like suggest an additional kink in our two different points of view as to their "Harshness". I wonder (no proof mind you, just an idea) if the difference is regional. NZ GW is a little looser and GW US is more draconian and unbending?

I had been noticing this in the FOW crowd as well. On forums it seems people from different regions are experiencing different things from GW staff/events. Some areas are very militant and others are looser in how the interpret and enforce things like Basing Restrictions or ?Non-GW? content limits.

Like I said, I have no proof, just antidotal evidences, but I would be curious if it is a part of the difference in our experiences and thus our points of view.

Thoughts?

Yes that thought did occur to me as well (regional differences). I think it certainly has much truth to it.

For instance at the big GW annual GW event in my city, things have changed this year. Bigwigs from GW are coming over, a Golden Demon competition is being held here for the first time (rather than elsewhere in NZ). Lots of prizes on offer, seminars etc.

The downside is that many of the Warhammer fraternity here like to use a range of models (especially French company Rackham, as well as Heresy, Reaper etc). Ironically many of these are even more expensive than GW, but wargamers pay for quality! However, the standards over what will be allowed in the competitions are a lot stricter this year - GW only.

I asked what sponsorship I could expect to receive for my Epic competition (with a wry grin...), but unsurprisingly none of the SG games are going to be officially supported events. At least I will be able to secure space should I run an Epic comp/display though.

I don't let barriers like company names, an objects origins, or sometimes even the laws of nature stand in my way of playing the way I want to. ?

Just in the last month I've bought minis from GW, GZG, DRM, & SJG. ?I've got tons of WIP buildings made from everything from blisters to wood, cardboard, bottle caps, and styrofoam. ?I even have a few legit resin buildings. ?My wife knows not to throw any object away without letting me inspect it for scratch build value.

I think I'm an excellent example that you CAN teach a new dog old tricks.

Since GW has cut Epic loose, all of their conventions are gone.

Epic is dead....LONG LIVE EPIC.

EDIT:
Oh yeah, I forgot, I also bought from IWM this month. ?No one is safe. :O

Hi!

Very eloquent, very true.  :)

Interesting. Shifts even in the more "fan friendly" areas toward the harsher way of thinking.

Yep, DRM, GZG, SJM/OGRE and BT (to name a few of the best) produce a wide range of models ... who needs G/W ?

I think L4 should make it part of his signature.

Con suggested I change my signature to "DRM - the Future of 6mm Sci-fi". Now I think I'll add "Who needs G/W ?"  :;);
