My wife figures better little toy army men then slim 20 something redheads

The same realization my wife came too...

My wife actually never objected about the minis themselves, she just didn't understand why I didn't gather up the entire table every time I stopped painting. And now that I have my own room she doesn't object about that either. Only when we are going to have some really important event do I have to clean up the table but I am OK with that. I do have to bulldoze the dust away every now and then...

It is also my mission to swat out those pesky Feral Orks. Unlike Warmaster nice, however, I dont bake em up. I just send em to him via Express Mail!!

I'm still single, but I break my new girlfriends right away into the idea that I'm a gamer and I go to conventions. I usually show them my minis and games by the fourth date (if they make it that far) so that they know what they're getting into.
I also sell the idea that gaming is much cheaper than the regular "macho guy" hobbies like cars, boats, big screen TVs, bars and barflys, etc.
All seem to regularly like gaming after a bit.
The current girlfriend even treated me to a convention, has taken up board gaming (miniatures aren't her thing) and is a jolly good sport. She really likes Settlers of Cataan. She's going with me to CONQUEST.
I let her help me with some gaming and mini things such as color planning for figures.
I used to suppress my nerd side, but now I'm much more comfortable having it out in the open. There are less misconceptions that way.
That old advice about just being yourself is good advice.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Quote (primarch @ 31 2004 Aug.,09:27) | I'll talk about it to like minded individuals (like you guys), but will rarely ever mention it in non-gamer circles. I absolutely HATE having to explain what exactly my hobby entails. | I do not hide it per say, but I do not spotlight it either. If someone (a non-gamer) asks I offer some info and try to gage their interest to the level of detail.
But I do agree, there are a lot of my co-workers who do not know I am a gamer because I just do not want to deal with it.

Hi Dafrca, Primarch and Gang,
---
To be frank, I never had the desire to share my hobby interest with any female. |
I don't mind sharing. In fact, if a woman had 0% interest in my hobbies then I would be bored with her. I like sharing board games with here (Settlers of cataan, AGTFOS, Puerto Rico (The game, Peter!), and the like.
I ALSO enjoy that she isn't interested in miniatures so that that remains my domain. She likes the artistic and creative aspects of miniatures gaming though.
---
I do not hide it per say, but I do not spotlight it either. If someone (a non-gamer) asks I offer some info and try to gage their interest to the level of detail. But I do agree, there are a lot of my co-workers who do not know I am a gamer because I just do not want to deal with it. |
Don't think that I'm advertizing! And especially not at work although when I taught intermediate (5th and 6th grade) a few years back, I used to host SJG OGRE games during lunch break. The kids had a great time.
I know what you mean about coworkers. Many of mine are turnips or Goombas from Super Mario Brothers. I used to hide it more, but now I just don't mention it to them, but I might to someone interested in their vicinity. I don't care if they know, but I don't go out of my way to tell them.
---
Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.
