Me: (walking into the local Games Workshop store) Hey, I heard there's a new edition. Where's the store copy?
Redshirt: Oh, sorry, but corporate told us not to make one available for the first two weeks.
Me: Huh. Well, I guess they don't like money. (Exits)

WTF? I'm not buying a $75 book without being able to look inside. Screw them.

Really? Whose dumb idea is that? What possible reason is there for not allowing people to see the book in store? What are they afraid of?

That's bizarre.

It's been GW standard practice for several years now with any new book release - you're only allowed to look inside the book if you buy it first.

It's the Apple sales technique, I guess.

As much as I hate Apple....

Apple =/= GW

And, I can go into an Apple store and try the iPads there, or get a demo in a shop... can't I?

I think GW think that they are Apple, in that they expect their fans to buy based on hype rather than trying out the product first.

And yeah, Apple give demos, but GW give demo games! heh.

It is an especially ironic situation given the fact that there appear to be at least occasional problems with the printing; misaligned printing leading to blurry pictures and in some cases text, pages which are folded, and poor quality bindings have been reported over on WS. No idea how widespread the issues are ATTM.

My wee rant would be that I pre-ordered the CE book, it was 'shipped' last Wednesday, I had selected freepost but it arrived by UPS courier on Monday. You'd think a courier would be quicker than standard postage or at least guaranteed to arrive on day of release... and now I don't want to read it because it's too pretty. :'(

Haven't heard any local problems with the standard book. One FLGS here sold through 41 without any returns

I noticed on the GW website the "Throne of Skulls Tournament" here in North America. I consider this to be in poor taste, but I'm not hopping mad about it. I think I'll send a hardcopy letter pointing out that there's a Khmer population here in the States that might not appreciate some of their phrasing.

Other poorly considered tournaments:
"Super Holocaust Genocide" in Israel
"Machete Demons of the Seventh Dimension" in Rwanda
"Pile of Severed Legs" in Laos.
"Flaming Naked Girl Stampede" in Vietnam

I was referring to the historically pivotal picture of Kim Phuc, the "napalm girl".
