2 books.
The first I guess that has already been posted:
The Pillars of the Earth, by KEN FOLLET Based around the building of a cathedral during the reign of king stephen in England. It is a page turner, but it is one good one at that. Beats the da vinci code 9 out of 10 times, since at least it is averagely written and the storyline is interesting.
The second is the autobiograhy of Mark Twain. I am reading it right now. He is simply the best writer of his generation. Hilarious descriptions of his childhood as well as a good deal of socuial critique.
Last but not least, Memoirs of hadrian, by Marggeritte Youcenar (sp?). A letter written by Emperor Hadrian to his heir Marcus Aurelius. He explains his whole life in the letter/book. Quite an interesting read. The best roman-based book I have ever read, appart from pure history books, that is.
Regards,
Xavi

Still reading Drake's "The Voyage", the S&T article on "SEELOWE" and a book written by a former US Infantry Officer who served in RVN, "The Seat of the Soul". Pretty interesting, very metaphysical, has nothing to do with war or Vietnam ... More on my way to the "path to enlightenment" on my personal "Grail Quest". Which like most "Questing Knights", will probably end in failure ... So it continues ...

I'm currently on the Science of Discworld book, which is good reading both in comedy value from Pratchett's bits, and in the real-world science which is interspersed in alternating chapters...
I also picked up an 'illustrated history' of Ray Bradbury's science fiction work over the years in a rather good book sale in the arts department last week; it is packed with book cover art, comic pages and all sorts of other goodness, a fine addition to my SF art collection!

Continuing my retro-"Adventure Fiction" reading, I have recently enjoyed:
The Battle of Dorking, Chesney The Great War of 1897, Le Quex The Raid of Le Vengeur, Griffith
All great stuff, all written a century ago. And thank goodness for online publishing - there wasnt too much room in my duffel bag for books!

Just got a copy from online of "Slammers Down" ... a role play paperback written by Todd Johnson (a former Sct SGT, with the U.S. 1st IDF in W.Ger.). And Drake adds his comments at the end. Maps and drawings too ! Looks like a good read. Almost finished "The Voyage", too !

The first book of the "Foundation" was very good. Unfortunately the other books were not so. It was a bit like the original Dragonlance trilogy. I really enjoyed the first book, was annoyed after reading the second and nearly threw the third one out of the window.
Since the Foundation seems to be one of the cult works of sci-fi genre (like dune) I guess I'm just culturally impaired...

The 3 fopundation books were amazing when I was 13. I simply loved them. I read them 3 years ago again, and was way less impressed. The basic story arc is good, buit sometimes you see that Asimov is a scientific and not a writer.
Still well worth reading IMO. At least once the first 3 books. The other 4 are basically bad stuff. Same asw with Dune.
I have already finished The Pillars of the Earth. Entertaining read, even if after a while you discover that the author is a fan of Freud when it comes to sexual stuff. The history is OK and entertaining and makes a fairly good read about the political situation during Stephen's reign in England.
Right now reading: - A Clockwork Orange - Ars Magica 5th Edition rulebook (IMO the best RPG ever) - Autobiography of Mark twain
Regards,
Xavi

I love the Foundation series, but have not re-read them recently. But, you do have to read them in order (although technically the first one was written later and could be read first or last).
