I wish I had enough money to buy a couple of copies to sell on in a few months for a huge mark up.....

How long did Space Hulk redux take to sell out? That cost what, £60? They sell on eBay at >£100 now, not sure what the peak was.

Mind you, I don't think Man O' War has the same iconic status compared to Space Hulk and, as others have said, Dreadfleet is not really the same game. I doubt if you could make much. Might be worth doing if you were going to buy, oh, 20 boxes or so (and can live with yourself), but that's a fair amount of cash to sink.

More generally, do others think the balance of interest in Fantasy vs 40K has changed much over the years? I don't remember 40K being quite so dominant in the 90s as it seems to be now, but maybe I'm just remembering it wrong or seeing it wrong now. Since I am not really connected with the rest of the hobby (only Epic) it's difficult for me to gauge.

I do remember a bloke buying ten copies and needing staff members to help carry them to his car when space hulk came out.....

I also remember a guy on warseer putting the marines on ebay a week later and getting £80 for them alone

I didn't pay much attention to 40k myself, but it does seem to be the only game being played at my local GW for the past 15 years now..... I read on warseer that GW sells more space marines than everything else combined

I still think this game will sell like hot cakes, I liked the idea of it myself, but when I saw that it wasn't so much a 'fleet' as a 'small collection of stupid cartoony boats' I lost interest and decided to focus harder on dystopian wars instead.....

Regarding skulls, I'm not even sure why they bother. Perhaps tons of skulls on stuff was 'edgy' in the 1980s, but for most people in the States younger than me, skulls are just abstract silly things usually associated with Halloween. So, they either seem lame or in awful taste.

I think you are right on both counts.

It's exactly this last part, i.e. you changing your mind about it once you've seen it, that I think will be the same for lots of others. People like the idea: "Man O' War is being re-released!" but the reality is "oh, they've made a pirate game, with islands made of skulls n' stuff". I guess it will still sell out due to the Games Workshop effect, but I don't think it will have the same lasting appeal as Space Hulk.

On the other hand, it seems unlikely to depreciate very much. Even Gorkamorka boxes have held their value, although I guess they must be looking pretty rare right about now.

One interesting question is, what will they do a one-off box set of next?

I assumed GW was just going on the The Seventh Seal line 'A skull is more interesting than a naked woman.'
Hence the OOP-ment of the more risqué 6th(?)ed daemonette minis and the appearance of skull islands.

It looked quite interesting though very pricey - at £50 i might have contemplated it but £70 was an instant no.

And if I wanted to play a pirate game I'd rather go for Dread Pirate. Played it a couple of weeks ago for the first time and ended up talking like a pirate for the rest of the night. Lots of fun and half the price (though i've seen it for about £15...).

That is a great game, I bought the wooden chest edition and used to play it with the lads. I gave it to my niece for her birthday and now no longer have to play 'The Sims' with her.

I think I might get it. Not sure though, it definitely doesn't have the same appeal as the Space Hulk "one shot" edition.
I feel some pang of nostalgia when being presented with a game-in-a-box I guess, and since I probably won't play it much if at all the variety of miniatures will just be a bonus to me : some "different stuff" to build and paint.

HEY I GOT A GREAT IDEA! LETS MAKE IT DARK OUT SO OUR LONG RANGE SUPPORT CANT SHOOT! , YA!, AND THEN LETS NOT MOVE THEM CLOSE SO THEY WILL NEVER GET TO SHOOT UNTIL THE LAST TURN! WHEN WE MAKE IT LIGHT OUT! YAAAAAAAA! THATS THE BEST IDEA EVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!. no, really, matt ward you made the damn book and yet this was a "good" idea to you?... you need to die sooner then later.
