So Maksim, I thought you did not have a job, but you said you were at work. Where are you working now?
Was this a new development?
In any case, I hope all goes well in getting the job you want.

dafrca. | Hi Dafrca,
I've been working all of this year and most of last, but all in "lesser" jobs...
The bad art is that I've had to work for lower-paying jobs until I can find a better one.
Some of the jobs I've had include:
- Industrial Office Custodian: did cleaning for big office building througha company on an on-call basis... the labor is surprisingly enjoyable.
- Part-time State worker in taxes division: Soul-drainingly boring work with numbers and taxes...
- A few others...
The problem with most of those jobs has been consistency and no room for advancement... they were just part-time or on-call jobs that didn't pay well, provide benefits or even leave me much free time.
The current job:
- CBT / McGraw Hill Testing Specialist / Supervisor: It pays very little and is seasonal work, but the hours are reasonable and the work is very manageable if not "dead" boring.
Coming on this upcoming Tuesday (27 June 2006), I take the State examination for an SSA (Staff Services Analyst) position, which would set me up nicely in the long-term and leave me enough financial security to think about taking some night-school and making some "future" plans. When you're making $11.00 USD an hour, that's not an option.
Hopefully the State job will pan out... it's a math and statistics test (mostly) and I used to teach highschool mathematics so I'm hoping I can test out high enough to make a position easy to acquire.
I already met a lady that manages a State office and would be happy to hire me once I'm listed (test out with a high score).
And hopefully, once I settle into a State job, I can spend more time with Planetfall (taking your advice)... I recently had a new idea for an armor concept.
Shabbat Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Ah got you.
You were doing what I did my senior year of my Bachelor.
I had a lot of small, part time, temp work, type jobs.
They included such fun things as cleaning a bar after hours, helping install closets, Schlepper and helper for a DJ service, help a family pack for their move to Denver, chalking softball fields for the city, and state employee in state ran warehouse among other things.
You are right as well that in some cases the work was OK. Just the pay sucked.

Well good on you for not being a welfare case and getting out there. Accepting unwelcome employment while looking for others shows real character IMHO

Hi Peter and Gang,
Quote (primarch @ 25 June 2006 (04:43)) | Sometimes you have to go through several crappy jobs to get the one you want. I have been through many places before landing in my current one. While not perfect, it's better than the previous ones. |
Yes, that's the stage I'm in at the moment: crappy jobs.

I agree with you completely, but sometimes that's easier to say than do.
I'm still at the stage where I'm working toward the "what I deserve" part and overcoming the "lesser" part.
It's sort of odd to think that I'm where Dafrca was when he left college, and, for that matter, I'm now BACK where I was when I left college!
And speaking of "lesser" parts, I should get myself out the door to the gym today (in a few minutes) to try and get some of my "greater" parts to turn into "lesser" parts!
And I host some gaming later today!
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

Best wishes in your incoming exams maks!!
*Rant mode on my current situation: ON*
I will be entering the unemployed status on the first of july. I had a project job for the last 9 months (just after finishing my second MA) and it has been good but unstable. i was working for a small politics stdy foundation, so there is no hope of keeping the job once the project is finished in a week's time. However, they are happy with my work, so they said they might hire me again in the future.
Right now I am taking a month off. I saved quite a bit of money during these 9 months, so I am well off in that aspect. I am still a parasite living with my parents, so for me the situation is not dire to find a new job.
My main current problem is being unsure on what kind of job do I want I have a BA in economics, an MA in politics and an MA in global political economy.... and I have not a clue of what kind of job I would enjoy. My current job, while good and entertaining is something I think I would not enjoy on the long run. I have learned a lot doing it, but IMO it is not "my" job.
I will keep you all informed in the future. I need to sort out my own interests before doing so, though.
*Rant mode: OFF*
Cheers,
Xavi
