It is time... For Net EA.

It certainly looks like it.

E&C - what do you know?

I think it has been Net EA for a long time - just that we have tried to get Specialist Games to approve what we have worked on.

I think if we go the route of NetEA we should try to just not produce as many army list as possible, but actually produce Swordwind like supplements and crack open the E:A rulebook pdf to update/edit it when a rules review determines updates are needed.

I had a short chat with Jervis 7 weeks ago on the topic of the SG department in general.

His opinion was that Epic would be best-served by setting up a miniature company (No pun intended!) specifically to sell and promote Epic. So if it ever happens, that'll most likely be how it goes.

He also mentioned another possibility was allowing FW to take over more of the rules development for Epic (I pulled a face but didn't say anything heh).

Hi!

Its a pipe dream. Given GW's recent lest than stellar sales record, I doubt we'll ever see another "swing at the plate".

Unless there is a major change in management (which I don't foresee), don't expect anything beyond their usual core games.

I'm not sure I want FW to develop rules for Epic.

Considering that until I told him, FW's chief rules writer wasn't aware how Epic's turn sequence works these days (Despite having written a couple of scenarios for Epic in IA:3)... no, I don't think it's a good idea. :)

So long as Epic products are available in the online store there is no need for NetEA.

And i really don't want that FW developes rules for epic. FW can produce the models but WE are here to develope the rules :D

Hmm. I don't really see that NetEA is the way to go unless necessary.

Right now, new gamers still have access to the SG site - which has a wealth of quality material available for free, however rarely that is updated, including the latest versions which we are working on.

The instant we take development away from the SG site, it becomes all but invisible to new players. I'm coercing a couple of friends towards Epic right now - and where else are they getting their info from but SG?

While the SG website is still there, it is worth exploiting. Even if it is NetEA in all but name, as long as the updates we send in are still being posted, what's the problem? Free bandwith, if nothing else!

SG may be on life-support. We're doing all the development as it is. Might as well be NetEA. But while the SG website exists, commencing NetEA is only going to fragment the community, which really might kill the game.

I agree with Lord Inquisitor.

It already is NetEA.  Currently SG provides a forum for development, hosts all documentation (even if players develop much of it), sells the figures, and  'advertises' the product by having a well organised section on GW website.

No need to change this plan, and doing so would be counterproductive at this stage IMO.

LI / Mark,

I'm not so sure that it would fragment the community.  The goals of a NetEA community would have a lot of overlap with the SG community.  What I am talking about is a contingency plan.

If SG fails then there is a structure already in place to take control.

If SG bounces back in any capacity, many of the efforts put forth in NetEA can be shared with SG.

If SG continues as is and we do nothing, the community will die (this is how the world ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper).  Sorry - I couldn't help but throw that in there. :;):

That's what I was thinking as well. Get the ball rolling in case GW pulls the plug with no warning.

I think figuring out where to concentrate and focus our efforts is important.

Right now this very forum has 3 Supplements being created.
Raiders - Dark Eldar, Necrons, & Minervan Armored Regiment (which I think has its own staff and time table)
Black Crusade - Black Legion, Chaos Cult, & Cadian (mostly Chorma on his own getting feedback from community)
Krieg supplement - Krieg Siegebreakers & unknown (mostly E&C on his own getting feedback from community)

It would make sense for the community to try and focus on the same projects and try and help each other.  For example if the community focused on producing Black Crusade for a few months, I think an excellent product could be produced.

Right now we are in the middle of a rules review and it seems that the only list that is official that is not getting attention is Orks - both Space Marines and Steel Legion are getting attention in the form of questioning the current rules for a lot of units and how to include newer models.  Are there parts of list that need to be looked at - yes.  But I think the majority of these list are fine as is.  It seems like the entire Steel Legion list is getting voted on right now.

How do we balance all the developing list if we are trying to re-balance half of the official list at the same time?

So we as the Epic community need to focus our efforts and find a common direction.  Setting up the NetE:A infrastructure in support of Specialist Games may be able to do just that.

I'm hoping to get Ulthwe in there as well.  I've had some pictures submitted as well, but I still don't have stuff for all the units.

On the back burner, I've got some ideas for a Tyranid sourcebook as well, Catachans and, the obvious, Iyanden, but I'm not sure what else could go in there... would be nice to see more variant Marine lists showing up.
