Well it's obvious what I voted for. Hammer's Slammers Handbook pt.1 and Hammer's Anvils pt.2 are a basic but appear an extremely playable set of rules. After 4 iterations of Epic, playing DS, hyriding those and others ... The appeal of a playable military sci-fi rules system with decent modern morale and leadership rules is quit tempting to me ... ?None of the Epic versions had good morale and leader (M&L) rules. ?Many of the G/W Epic M&L rules seemed more like Napoleonics ! ?I'm not a WHFB fan, and I prefer military sci-fi to historical or modern at this point ... ?But as always --- ?DWWFY ! :;):

Hmm. As Warhammer is pulling ahead I did a little math. Normally I'm strictly a "rulebook" guy; no starting packages for me. But the Rulebook costs ?50. The starter set costs ?50 as well and has , oh, some ?255 worth of minis in there.

Anybody know what da big book has that's missing from the "box book"? Anything other than background fluff and painting guides...

background fluff and painting guides.  :D
The full rule set is included in the little book, and that's what's important. Mind you, I have not yet seenbthe 'big book', but the lesser one is complete.

No.

-3 crappy scenarios that no one uses.
-Background fluff and painting guides.

Not that I've played them, but the box does include a supplement of entertaining scenarios for the dwarves and gobbos. The mini selection itself has a number of nice elements to foster a 'story' approach to the games, eg the miners cart, gobbo tent etc.
